Yes, quite a common practice back then.
Either that or get somebody like Pat Boone eek to cover the tune.

Now that WOULD have been funny to have Pat Boone try and cover a James Brown tune.

Definitely a bad one.
That's one of the '70s era ones I decided to leave out after realizing what a daunting task I had undertaken.
I figured the point had been made.

Based on sheer numbers alone, much like his reverse counterpart James Brown , Frank Zappa should get the King of the Cool Album Cover award. Again, like James Brown, this will have to get divided up into decades.
