Tori Amos & Enya

There are very few artists today who are as musicaly talented and as innovative and creative as Prince. Tori Amos and Enya are two of my favorites who I feel are up there on the some plateau as Prince.

Tori Amos is one of those musicians who defies catagorization, just like Prince. Her music is at times very complex. She is an amazing piano player and her lyrics are always very deep (not like the recycled-garbage bin-bubblegum pop-bullshit on the radio today). Her music speaks very loudly and always makes a statement. A few of my favorites are "Crucify," "Hey Jupiter," "Me And A Gun," "Little Earthquakes," "God," and "Glory of the 80's."

Enya is an amazing musician. She plays a countless number of instruments, has done some truly amazing overdubs, and sing in English, Gaelic, and Latin. I think she has defined what "New Age Music" is. On top of that she has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.

I would be curious to hear any thoughts on these to artists.

Favorite solo artists:
Prince
Tori
Kate Bush

and that's about it as far as solo artists go. Tori is just so...tori. I dunno. Very addictive music, I understand half of why and the other half I don't. Kate Bush is just straight-up performance art that makes sense. And we all know about the man.
As for Fiona? Well, ,I think she had a great start but fell in love too much with her bitchy side. I think she'll make the next great album in 10 years. Until then, though, her music is..ok.
The best Tori songs are "China" "Winter" and "Waitress" IMHO.
And Kate Bush songs? "Why Should I love U" is one of the best songs EVER! Done with Prince, at that. and then "Wow". If you haven't heard Kate, check her out. Highly recommended by me, Maxwell, and Outkast.

Fiona sounds really great on her last album. I hope she continues to produce music.

Enya's songs always the same, I liked Tori's first album a lot & her covers "smells like teen spirit" & "strange little girls" (The Stranglers). Great underrated female singer: KRISTIN HERSH
& let's not forget Suzanne Vega, jn

Aimee Mann.
Check out the Magnolia Soundtrack (AND the movie, as the music is the heart of it)
And she does sumthing on the soundtrack of I Am Sam too; as do Sheryll Crow, Ben Harper, The Finns and Sarah McLachlan (excuse me for spelling that wrong)
They all cover Beatle numbers on that.
Nice, nice, nice

I love Tori Amos! I didn't get into her until 1999 when I saw her open a show for Alanis Morissette. After that show I bought up her stuff and loved it! I then realized that this song I really liked in the movie "Toys" was by her, so that was cool smile I saw her twice on the tour she just did this past fall with just her and her piano. No band members, just her and the lighting guy (who did a beautiful job btw!) I have a boot of her doing Purple Rain smile

Tori Amos is one of my all time fav singer/songwriters out there [2nd only 2 Prince fcuz hehe].

I love all the things she's done up until now. The progression in her work over such a relatively short period of time is amazing. And the amount of songs she's churned out in the last decade is truly brilliant.

Besides all of her albums, -Choirgirl Hotel arguably the best of the bunch- she's also released tuns of B-sides and soundtrack contributions. Most of m can B found on audio galaxy since the majority of the singels is out of print or very hard 2 find.

Some of Tori's B-sides:

Merman
Never Seen Blue
Upside Down
Butterfly
Buelah Land
Sugar
Black Swan
Honey
Frog On My Toe
Home On The Range
Mary
Samurai
Losing My Religion
Alamo
Here In My Head
Bachelorette
Cooling
London Girls
Only Women Bleed
Take To The Sky
Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout
Flying Dutchman
Graveyard
Toodles Mr Jim
This Old Man
The Happy Workers
Famous Blue Raincoat
Do It Again
Carnival
A Case Of U
Sister Janet
After All
Siren
Finn
Smells Like Teen Spirit
Thoughts
Strange Fruit
Angie
Daisy Dead Petals
Thank U
That's What I Like Mick [The Sandwich Song]
The Pool
All The Girls Hate Her
Hungarian Wedding Song

etc etc

Surely, that number of b-sides in just 10 years
is something we could call 'up 2 Princely standards'...
