Greatest Hits...Best Of...well almost. Doesn't it just 'chap yer hide' when your favourite artists release their "Greatest Hits" / "Best of.." and leave off some of your favourite songs? I suppose we have to look at it from either the record company or the artisits' point of view. And what exactly is considered a "hit". I'm sure part of it is to also increase sales on back catalogue as well. That's business. But now with downloaders galore; do they think people are going to purchase that album for the 1 hit? I know it's more of the "biggest chart" success rather than a singles collection. But still..
example: MADONNA aka the GODDESS! Immaculate Collection track listing here notice anything missing.. Everybody Burning Up Angel Dress You Up Gambler True Blue Who's That Girl Causing A Commotion Oh Father Keep It Together Hanky Panky And on her 3rd compilation of hits track listing here where are: Fever Bad Girl Bye Bye Baby American Pie Nothing Really Matters I've made my own "Immaculate Collection Vol. 2" complete with cover and all, and working on a GHV2.2. Damn I need a life. "Something To Remember" took care of the ballads. And was a pretty complete 'hits' package. And what's up with the video collections? Same goes there. Maybe a licensing thing. So any of your favourite artists or any other g.h. albums that you want to gripe about list them here.

I always found it funny that Simple Minds' best of CD, 'Glittering Prize,' didn't have the single "Glittering Prize" on it. It was one of their better songs too.

WTF was up with Madonna's Immaculate Collection, anyway? Many 'newbies' walked away from that belieiving those inferior remixes were actually the original versions. And it told you NOWHERE on the packaging.....
I know they were obsessed with Q-Sound processing back then, but did the producer really think "I want these in as WIDE STEREO as possible. I want to rip Phil Spector a new ass!". The channel separation is sometimes laughable on those tracks. [This message was edited Fri May 7 12:44:54 2004 by VoicesCarry]

It's very hard for an artist that has had lots of hits to include them all on one disc and Madonna did a pretty bad job with "The Immuculate Collection". It felt more like her favorite hit songs than a true hits collection. GHV2 wasn't bad except for the few omission. The really sucky thing about GHV2 was that it felt more like greatest album hits, despite "Argentina". Plus, the regular verison of "Argentina" didn't hit the Top 10 (not here). It was the dance remix that everyone was playing. Also, "You Must Love Me" was a top 40 hit and won the Oscar. I don't think it's a liscening thing with Madonna. However, that was a problem in the past for artist but now record labels are joining together to collect hits from artists such as Cher, Aerosmith, Donna Summer and countless others.

Also, I never understood why they ruined "Into The Groove". Shep Pettibone screwed that one up good (then again, he did that on her remix CD only two years after the song's release). Thankfully, I think the verison that Madonna will perform will be closer to the original, since the "Gap" one used the original.

Considering all the hits that Madonna has had,I'm shocked that there isn't a 2-CD Greatest Hits compilation. One CD just isn't enough, but a 2-CD set could include all of the major hits.
But I really love 'The Immaculate Collection'.It leaves off a few hits, but overall,it's a satisfying collection.Unfortunately,'GVH2' was a huge disappointment. No new songs, and mostly weak single edits. If it wasn't for the awesome photos inside the booklet and the great liner notes,I wouldn't have even bought it,lol. Tell me how Columbia and Earth Wind And Fire put out, "The Eternal Dance", an ultimate, career-spanning 3CD box, and left out "Love's Holiday"?
