WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT MADONNA'S AL?

HI EVERYBODY!
I WAS WONDERING WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MADONNA'S AMERICAN LIFE (THE LP).
I THINK IT'S SIMPLY MADONNA'S WORST ALBUM EVER, BUT RE-RELEASING IT WITH SOME CHANGES IT COULD BENEFIT.
THIS IS THE TRACK-LIST OF MY AMERICAN LIFE:
1. AMERICAN LIFE (RADIO EDIT)
2. HOLLYWOOD (RADIO EDIT)
3. I'M SO STUPID
4. LOVE PROFUSION
5. NOTHING FAILS
6. INTERVENTION
7. ME AGAINST THE MUSIC
8. DIE ANOTHER DAY (RADIO EDIT)
9. EASY RIDE (without that dumb final à la don't tell me)

NOTHING FAILS IS THE BEST TRACK ON THE ALBUM, BUT I DON'T LIKE VERY MUCH THE WAY IT WAS PRODUCED... THAT FUZZ IN MADONNA'S VOICE AND THINGS LIKE THAT, WHILE NOBODY KNOWS ME IS THE WORST TRACK ON THE ALBUM AND ONE OF MADDY'S INANE SONGS EVER.
IT'S THE BAD COPY OF IMPRESSIVE INSTANT.

X-STATIC PROCESS AND MOTHER AND FATHER ARE ALSO IN THE BLACK LIST.

The third song should have been the title track.

Nothing Fails = the best thing she's done in at least a decade, the rest - filler.

Taking off "Mother and Father", one of the best written, most personal and the most eneregetic song on the album, in place of in place of the shallow and sdull "Me Against the Music"? No! "Me Against the Music" is "I'm A Slave 4 U" without the beat or theat. “I’m So Stupid” is mad, bad and boring. I love “American Life”, even the silly rap, but I must be alone. “Nothing Fails” was brilliant and if they released the original version, with a video, it would have been a smash. “Love Profusion” and “X-Static Process” are pleasant. Other than the track I mentioned, everything else just kind of hangs there and is average. That was the problem with the album. It just kind of hangs there like a bored hooker.

The middle is the best part of the album:

Love Profusion
Nobody Knows Me
Nothing Fails
Intervention
X-Static Process

and Easy Ride shouldn't be excluded.

The rest... meh. Not her best. At all.

The album has been growing on me a bit lately, but it's not exactly my fave Madonna
album...I don't really get what people like about Nothing Fails it's the most
boring track on the album...there r no real standout cuts on the record
but it does kinda work as a whole...

i thought i was going to be disappointed with this cd, back before it was released. then a few songs leaed and i REALLY thought i was gonna hate. i didn't like music but loved ray of light so i was hoping to like AL. some of the people here, especially davideye, can remember having great debates about madonna and her 'artistry'. well, when the cd came out, i really ended up liking it! i like it as much as ray of light, honesty. i'm probably alone there but, hey, it's how i feel. i wouldn't mind seeing a concert of most of the AL material with a few hits sprinkled in.

american life is one of my favorite madonna releases along with like a prayer, ray of light, and erotica. they are probably my top 4 madonna cds.

It's really good, and for the people who only heard the single "American Life", you can expect to hear better songs than that on the album.

What I love most about 'American Life' is that it's a very personal album that reflects where Madonna is these days.At this point in her life, this is the album that she needed to make for herself. It's not really a "commercial" album at all,and I can see why so many people didn't "get it".The melodies are somber and low-key (even on the uptempo tracks) and the lyrics throughout are self-referential,almost as if Madonna took pages from her diary and turned them into an album.Another great thing about this album is it's stripped-down sound. Most tracks are more acoustic rock than techno. In fact, there really isn't much techno this time around. There are some great tunes here...."Nobody Knows Me","Easy Ride","Love Profusion","Mother And Father" and "X-Static Process" are superb,as good as anything she's ever done.

btw,I agree with Martinelli's view of the song "Nothing Fails".I still can't understand why so many fans consider this song to be a classic. It's a good song, but it's no masterpiece.

honestly, the only track I don't like on this CD is "I'm So Stupid"

I think it's a very personal album that is MUCH more consistent than "Music"

lol I will say, I love all the bad-hype about M's "rapping" on this CD. Like it was something new. She's been "rapping" since "Vogue."

I actually like the version of this track from Remixed and Revisited better than the original. it's so raw and rough

Nothing Fails is definitely the best track on the cd nod

It took me a few listens, but I really like this cd as a whole!

I was thinking about all those crazy rumors that preceded the release of 'Amercan Life'.Here's a recap of the silly nonsense that was being reported on Madonna fansites back in 2002...

***In early 2002,we heard that the album will be a (mostly) hard rock album titled "Rock Vanity" with Maddy playing guitar throughout lol

***By mid-2002,a partial tracklist (unconfirmed) had surfaced...

"Unless It's You"
"Can You See My Mind"
"Rock Vanity"
"La Petit" (produced by William Orbit)
"Liquid Love" (produced by William Orbit)
"Believe Her" (supposedly produced by Dr. Dre!)

(the two William Orbit-produced songs really do exist,as does "Can You See My Mind".Not sure about those other songs)

***In November 2002,another tracklist surfaced. The new album was said to be titled "Touch" and featured these songs...

"Touch"
"I Know You Know"
"Basic Needs"
"Dangerous Games"
"In The Dark (Alone Again)"
"Something's Gotta Give"
"Die Another Day"
"Back Of My Mind"
"Dreams Of Dreams"
"Get Me Hot"
"Final Conclusion"
"I've Never Been"

(this tracklist looks like a total fake to me)

***In early 2003,there was a rumor that Warners wanted Maddy to go back and re-record the entire album because they were shocked at how her vocals sounded.Apparently,Maddy used vocoders and other special effects on most of the songs and her voice was unrecognizable...lol...

***A few weeks after 'American Life' finally came out,we heard about the outtakes...

"Mr.Ejector" (or "My Ejector")
"Adverse Youth"
"X-Static Process" (uptempo dance version, not unlike "Impressive Instant")
"Mind Trapper"
"Bad Nature"
"Trick" (a collaboration with the French duo Air)
"Can You See My Mind"

lol already, there are rumors of a new CD due in 2005.I can't wait to see what crazy rumors and tracklists surface between now and then...lol

I can't believe how many people take that rap seriously, like it's a hardcore
hip-hop statement..it just sound quirky & kitschy..

nod Yes,it is a much more focused album than 'Music'.Don't get me wrong,'Music' is a great album and it's easily her most eclectic and experimental album. But 'American Life' is much more consistent.

AL screams of desperation, an ageing un-original 'singer' (saying loosely) - trying to stay current ....
It hurts to listen to at points, 1 or posibly 2 'good' tracks in all!!
I wish Madonna would of retired with 'Music' she's now starting to show herself up ...

BTW this site has exclusive pics of her rehearsing the new tour

You could of fooled me!!
Actually the content of Flea Pit isnt disgusting its one of the very few sites that point out that Madonna infact isnt original in the slightest, you dont like the fact it points out alot of truth with pictorial evidence.
And I dont hate Madonna - I hate Madonna fans who contradict themselves when slagging off other artists.
