Whoa, Aannastesia...I'm impressed!!...lol...Yes, it was "Indiana Wants Me" for the first one....I'm not sure what exactly this nimrod was running from the Indiana police for, but it is indeed based on true events...lol...

And David's right, it's KC and the Sunshine Band for the third one...I think the songs were "Get Down Tonight", "That's The Way(I Like It)", "I'm Your Boogie Man", ....um...and a couple others..lol.. wink

As for the second one, the song was called (I think, anyway) "Music Box" or something like that...it was a rather irritating piano instrumental that, for whatever freakin' reason, just shot up the charts...it was the B-side to an officially released single, but a DJ thought the single sucked and dug the instrumental on the flip side...started playing it and next thing you know it was #1...and I HATED that freakin' keyboard tinkling melody!!!...lol..Once you hear it, it's stuck in your head for MONTHS!!...

I betcha Prince wishes the 70s would come back.In those days,an artist could be as prolific as they wanted.People didn't take 4-year breaks between albums, they had a new album out only months after their last one.Consider....

***Donna Summer---In the fall of 1975,her debut album 'Love To Love You Baby' came out and went gold.By spring of 1976,her second LP 'A Love Trilogy' was in stores.By the WINTER of that same year, she had another new album in stores,'Four Seasons Of Love'.In the spring of 1977,she released another new album 'I Remember Yesterday',and in the WINTER of that same year, she released a TWO-RECORD SET called 'Once Upon A Time'.In 1978,she released another TWO-RECORD SET called 'Live And More'.In 1979,she released, you guessed it,another TWO-RECORD SET called 'Bad Girls',to be followed that WINTER by another TWO-RECORD SET called 'On The Radio---Greatest Hits'.

***Earth Wind and Fire---In spring 1975,they released their 'That's The Way Of The World' album.By winter of that same year, they had a TWO-RECORD live album in stores 'Gratitude'.

***Stevie Wonder---He released one album a year through most of the 70s.He took 1975 off,but then returned in 1976 with 'Songs In The Song Of Life',a sprawling TWO-RECORD SET that included---get this----a "bonus" 45 single that contained an additional 4 songs!!!! In 1978,he returned with yet another TWO-RECORD SET,'Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants'.

***George Benson---In 1976,there were a total of FOUR George Benson albums released, including the Grammy-winning 'Breezin'.

***By 1980,though,the music business was in a deep recession. There were too many albums being released, and consumers became more cautious.

Multiple studio album releases were more common to the 60s than 70s.

Hell, nowadays, an artist who has a hit album waits 8 years before following it up, scared to death of puttin out a dud and losing their popularity....so they live off that one hit, that one good-selling CD for years, and instead focuses on being "seen" at awards shows and believing their own hype...then that follow up album drops, everyone yawns collecitvely, and these artists slide into embarrasing obscurity like they were on a greased railing...

And no, I didn't get this story from "The Life And Times of Bobby Brown"... wink

Things I liked/loved in the 70's:

* Disco---I still love disco (don't laugh now), in the form of TRUE house music (for those that don't know, true house music is nothing but black 70's disco music, not that crap made on casio keyboards)

* Cartoons: Fat Albert, Superfriends, Hong Kong Phooey, Speed Racer, The Banana Splits, etc.....

* Movies: Coffy, Superfly, Shaft, Cornbread, Earl & Me, Dolemite (I had to sneak to watch), and other stuff like "The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh".

* Tony Orlando & Dawn---why did I think that one of the ladies names was Orlando?.....The Captain & Tenille....loved them too..., Chicago, The Bee Gees, and whomever made "Kung-fu fighting"

* Roller Skating----THE 70's family activity!!

* Black Lights----I swear...when I build my dream house, I'm gonna have a black light room with all the classic black-light posters...the naked sista with the afro, the tigers and panthers, and all the other psychedelic black light stuff. I was soooo fascinated by all that stuff.

* Afro Picks.....you wasn't cool unless you had a fist pick, or the red/green fold out one!

Im sure I'll think of more.....

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!!! I was out of the www.prince. org yesterday, so I have to get caught. Yes... I grew in the 70's and proud of it. To me, music was at its best then. DAVIDEYE and WELLBEYOND covered a lot of bases as it relates to how prolific an artist could be.

Speaking of Donna Summer three double albums back to back. All those albums hit number #1 on the BILLBOARD chart. Which is a record. No other artist has ever had three double albums in a row to go to number one on Billboard's album chart.

It's hard for LIL MAN coming up in a time and era he did, because some of the people he looked up too (James Brown and Stevie Wonder) could be prolific, their seemed to be more artistic leeway then. Now it's milk the cash cow for all you can. Don't put out too much product and oversaturate the market. That was one of his biggest beefs with WB. I'll be back with more 70's stuff!!!!!

Yeah,my girl Donna Summer released ALOT of music in the late 70s.Three double albums, back to back.Nowadays, that is unheard of.Do you think even Madonna would be allowed to do that these days?

Wellbeyond made a great point.Today's artists are CHICKEN! They're afraid to bounce back quickly with a new album. To be fair, their record companies wanna "milk their albums for all they're worth",so that's part of the reason too.

Speaking of Donna, here's an interesting story that reminds me of Prince's 'Black Album' saga.In the summer of 1981,Donna and her producers (Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte) completed her album 'I'm A Rainbow',an 18-song two record set (yes, another 2-record set!!!) but it was rejected by Geffen Records.Instead,Donna was paired with mega-producer Quincy Jones, which resulted in her 1982 self-titled album. But,the "rejected" album was circulating in the bootleg market for years, and in 1996,it finally was officially released on Polygram Records.

In celebration of that great decade of music the 70's, everyday, except on weekends, have to take some time off(lol), there will be a SEVENTIES ALBUM OF THE DAY PICK and a SEVENTIES TRACK OF THE DAY.Iwill do this from now until the end of March...how's that????? But to start this out I will do 3 Seventies Album Of The Day Picks. Plus One Seventies Track Of The Day Pick.....

SEVENTIES ALBUMS OF THE DAY

* Steely Dan-Aja.....Classic album from the group that love to deliver obscure lyrics. Legendary jazz man WAYNE SHORTER turns in a stunning performance on DEACON BLUES. The song PEG is classic DAN track as well. One of the best albums the 70's offered. By this time WALTER BECK and DONALD FAGEN had narrowed this group down to just them two. The DAN would spent 4 hours in the studio perfecting 1 minute of music. Great album from a great group (Released in 1978).

* Earth Wind And Fire-Spirit.....Some of my buddies who are EWF fans debate constantly as to whether this album is EWF at their peak. Some of them think this album was slept on by people. This is a great album(also one of my favorite album covers of all time). My favorite song on this album is the song named after them believe it or not...EARTH WIND AND FIRE. Also, how can you deny GETAWAY and SATURDAY NITE. Also SPIRIT, the title track is a winner. Some people think THAT'S THE WAY OF THE WORLD" is the best EWF recording. Some people think that ALL N ALL is the best recording. However, don't sleep on this record. You'll certainly be rewarded as a listener.(Released in 1976).

* Parliament-Mothership Connection.....George Clintion and Co. delivers an excellent jaw-dropping collection of FUNK on this 1975 masterpiece. The albums delivers two big anthems. P-FUNK( Who Wants To Get Funked UP) and TEAR THE ROOF OFF THE SUCKER. The album cover for this album shows George Clinton jumping out a space ship and landing on Planet Earth...and that's about right, cause this music is clearly from another planet. You won't need to hit the skip button on your CD remote control for this landmark record. It's great from beggining to end. With Bootsy Collins playing polyrhythms with a strong sense of urgency. Plucking and slapping that bass with TRUE AUTHORITY!!!!!
(Released in 1975)

SEVENTIES TRACK OF THE DAY

* Bee Gees-Stayin Alive.....People often make fun of theBee Gees because genre of music that they represented in the late 70s'was disco. But this song has still endured and proves that the Gibbs brothers were great lyricists. Plus this song has a serious groove to it(dancing to this song is infectious). This song was played on R*B radio stations back in the 70's as well as pop stations. This song went to number #1 and stayed there was 4 weeks. For all of you disco haters that think that disco offers nothing substantial try this on for size.....

"It's all right...It's o.k.
You may look the other way....
But we can try to understand
The New York Times don't make no MAN"

"Whether you're a mother or whether you're a brother You're staying alive.....staying alive"

.....TO BE CONTINUED...Tune in tomorrow(on this thread) to see what the 70's album and track of the day will be. As that 70's phrase goes.....

HAVE A NICE DAY.... smile

Speaking of Ohio Players...does anybody know why their 1975 album HONEY was so controversial?????

I'm gonna try my hand @ this: weren't all Ohio Player album covers on the verge of porn? Was it a naked woman covered in honey or something?

Speaking of naked women covered in honey :O, which group brought a woman out on stage, doused her in honey & the heat of the lights literally baked her - she died I think?

Anybody know what I'm talking about???

***On the song "Staying Alive",I always thought they were singing "The New York Times effect on man",but your lyric is probably the correct one.Likewise,on "More Than A Woman",it sounds like they're really singing "Bald headed woman"....lol....

***Steely Dan 'Aja'----The first track on this album,"Black Cow" was sampled by a rap duo a few years back and it became a big hit.I can't remember the name of the duo,but wasn't the song called "Uptown Baby(Deja Vu)" or something like that? One of the rappers was named Peter Gunz, right?

***Yes,Calhoun, the Ohio Players were nototrious for their album covers....lol...I have a few of 'em hanging on my wall!

***Back to Disco...I love 70s Disco, and I know alot of people make fun of it,but to me,Disco is the "ultimate" party music. How can ANYBODY sit still when songs like Foxy's "Get Off",GQ's "Disco Nights",Evelyn Champagne King's "Shame",and Musique's super-nasty "In The Bush" comes on? Those are straight up JAMS!!!

Yep!!!!.I love DISCO Just like any other genre, there is good disco and bad disco. Like the song DISCO DUCK by RICK DEES AND HIS CAST OF IDIOTS. Can you believe this song went to number #1 on the Billboard Pop Singles Chart in 76'?? Don't worry I haven't given any of my future 70's tracks of the day songs away. This song surely won't make it on that list(LOL). There was also a song called DISCO FLINTSTONES. In the song there is the voice of Fred Flintstones saying "PARTY OOOHHH OOHHHH, PARTY OOOOO_OOOOO!!!!!"(LOL)

You wanna discuss bad Disco songs? Here are some embarassing ones...

***"Freak N'Stein" by Blue Magic(1976)---Yes,this is the same Blue Magic that gave us the gorgeous "Side Show" in 1974.By 1976,though,they were trying to appeal to Disco fans, with disastrous results.

***"Let Me Take You Dancing" by Bryan Adams (1979)---Yes,THAT Bryan Adams! Alot of people don't know that he started his career with this piece of trash,in which his strong, impressive vocals were computer-enhanced,making him sound like Alvin of the Chipmunks!

***"Get Up and Boogie" by The Silver Convention (1976)---Their debut single "Fly Robin Fly" was pleasantly engaging, but this follow-up single is repetitive and annoying, with it's absurd "That's right!" hook.

***"In The Navy"by the Village People (1979)---I actually like these guys, but this wasn't one of their better moments.

Longtime DAN fans latched on AJA back in '77 when it was released, but it had such long legs that a lot of EAGLES and FLEETWOOD MAC (who also had long running albums out) fans were checking it out. I remember this because a chick I was dating was totally into that suburban pop rock stuff and I was plying AJA and ROYAL SCAM a lot. After moving out to apts, she'd would ask me to play that "jazzy stuff from the dorms".

"Josie" from Aja had me hooked for the longest time when that album came out...my sister was the one who bought it, she loved Steely Dan...all she'd play was "Deacon Blues"(love the lyrics to that song....[i]"they have a name for the winners in the world...and I want a name when I lose.."[i/])...but the first time I heard "Josie" I became a Steely Dan fan...Then when I went to college a roommate of mine had a "Best of Steely Dan" Lp, and he made a tape of it for me...I heard "Bhodistavva"(or however you spell it), and I became even more of a Steely Dan fan...loved the guitar work on that song...
