Isn't it wierd how different songs affect different people. I think it's all to do with what you're feeling at the time you hear it. That song then encapsulates that feeling for you forever more.

If a guy loved me as much as some men love their cars I'd be tres happy! Ok. So not so romantic on the lyrics. But for me, personally, a beautiful song doesn't have to have fantastic lyrics. The arrangement and the instrumentation need to come together and make me feel like I've been hugged. That for me is a 'beautiful' song. Distance is to love, as a breeze is to a flame…

PS. ...and it also has to have the power to make you cry when you're sad and cry when you're happy (cheerful soul in't I?). Or for you British blokes, it needs to at least make yer stiff upper lip wobble a bit! Distance is to love, as a breeze is to a flame…

Many many songs by Stevie Wonder..."Lately" for example.
Prince - Adore. It's THE Love song, for me. Also Sometimes It Snows In April is nice. Various songs of George Michael. Various songs of Michael Jackson. "Where Are You Now?" - Janet Jackson and others by her. "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" - Juliana Hatfield, written by Neil Young. She has a beautiful, sweet voice...lots of her stuff is very beautiful. Jimi Hendrix - "Little Wing" and "One Rainy Wish" - two big faves, beautiful progressions and lyrics. Led Zeppelin - "Rain Song" Many songs by Jeff Buckley - particularly his version of "Satisfied Mind" "God Only Knows" - Brian Wilson/Beach Boys....and others by Brian. Various Beatles - "Something" - George Harrison Kind of Blue Album- Miles Davis Love Supreme Album- John Coltrane "Watermelon in Easter Hay" - Frank Zappa and many others I can't recall at the moment | |
