for my lover - tracy chapman
he walked through the fair - sinead o'conner
time - tom waits
circle of friends - edie brickell and new bohemians
eleanor rigby - the beatles
in my life - the beatles
almost any cat stevens song but especially 'the wind' and 'on the way to find out'

oh, dip...i forgot 'beloved wife' by natalie. mm mm mm, so sad and so beautiful.

You were the love
for certain of my life
you were simply my beloved wife
I don't know for certain
how I'll live my life
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife

I can't believe
I've lost the very best of me

you were the love
for certain of my life
you were simply my beloved wife
I don't know for certain
how I'll live my life
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife

I can't believe
I've lost the very best of me

you were the love
for certain of my life
for 50 years simply my beloved wife
with another love I'll never lye again
it's you I can't deny
it's you I can't defy
a depth so deep
into my grief
without my beloved soul
I renounce my life
as my right
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife

my beloved wife
my love is gone she suffered long
in hours of pain
my love is gone
now my suffering begins
my love is gone
would it be wrong if I should
surrender all the joy in my life
go with her tonight?

my love is gone she suffered long
in hours of pain
my love is gone
would it be wrong if I should
just turn my face away from the light
go with her tonight?

Isn't it wierd how different songs affect different people. I think it's all to do with what you're feeling at the time you hear it. That song then encapsulates that feeling for you forever more.

For me:

If leaving me is easy - Phil Collins bawl
The Love Inside - Barbara Streisand sad
Parisienne Walkways - Gary Moore biggrin
A Woman's Work - Maxwell('s version) (soz KB fans) biggrin
You Remind Me - R Kelly biggrin
Love and Affection - Joan Armatrading biggrin
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World - Prince biggrin
Purple Rain - Prince sad
Whenever, Wherever, Whatever - Maxwell biggrin
Stay With Me Till Dawn - Judie Tzuke biggrin
The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkel biggrin
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel biggrin
Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Eva Cassidy sad

.....to name but a few.

Let us know your final rundown!

Hey, don't knock it. If a guy loved me as much as some men love their cars I'd be tres happy!

Ok. So not so romantic on the lyrics. But for me, personally, a beautiful song doesn't have to have fantastic lyrics. The arrangement and the instrumentation need to come together and make me feel like I've been hugged. That for me is a 'beautiful' song. batting eyes

PS. ...and it also has to have the power to make you cry when you're sad and cry when you're happy (cheerful soul in't I?giggle). Or for you British blokes, it needs to at least make yer stiff upper lip wobble a bit! confused

Many many songs by Stevie Wonder..."Lately" for example.

Prince - Adore. It's THE Love song, for me. Also Sometimes It Snows In April is nice.

Various songs of George Michael.

Various songs of Michael Jackson.

"Where Are You Now?" - Janet Jackson and others by her.

"Only Love Can Break Your Heart" - Juliana Hatfield, written by Neil Young. She has a beautiful, sweet voice...lots of her stuff is very beautiful.

Jimi Hendrix - "Little Wing" and "One Rainy Wish" - two big faves, beautiful progressions and lyrics.

Led Zeppelin - "Rain Song"

Many songs by Jeff Buckley - particularly his version of "Satisfied Mind"

"God Only Knows" - Brian Wilson/Beach Boys....and others by Brian.

Various Beatles - "Something" - George Harrison

Kind of Blue Album- Miles Davis

Love Supreme Album- John Coltrane

"Watermelon in Easter Hay" - Frank Zappa

and many others I can't recall at the moment
