Roberta Flack & Elton John As PIANISTS-Yay Or Nay?

I was having this debate with some friends about veteran vocalists/pianists and Roberta & Elton's names passd by.

The reason why I asked this ?uestion becoz I PERSONALY believe that BOTH are overrated(sorry typo) about their piano playing when its nothing short than conventional & safe IMHO.

But I wanna know about what do you guys think of them as pianists? Be honest now!

Well, Elton is not the best pianist in pop music. He's a hair better than his contemporary, Billy Joel. And for my money Bruce Hornsby can wipe the floor with him. Bruce Hornsby is the best pianist in popular music. But Elton's still definitely a damn good player, no doubt about it. Sometimes I'm "wowed" more by Ben Folds on the keys, but Elton was an amazing player back in the day (he actually lost some of it when he got off the drugs, but that's another argument/thread).

I couldn't comment on Roberta Flack 'cause I'm just not as familiar with her work.
