Nah the MJ version of "Come Together" absolutely DESTROYS the Beatles original! The original sounds very plain when compared and whoever said MJ's vocal performance lacks soul.....what the hell u smokin??!! Let me put it another way: stick on the OG and it's cool, it'll get my head noddin a little but put on the MJ one and I can't help but move my feet and dance!
Stevie Wonder - "We can work it out" is mos def funky as fu*k in the same way as above PEACE! Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

D'Angelo's version of "Cruisin'" wiped the floor with Smokey's. Although I love his songwriting skills, I can't stomach his annoying voice.

Yea, the D'Angelo version is a bit more soulful.
Zeppelin's Dazed And Confused. Aretha's Respect Prince doing One Of Us Donny Hathaway doing You Got A Friend Elvis's Hound Dog beats the Big Mama Thornton version The Jackson Five ace Who's Lovin You...TTD does a great version as well. Guns And Roses did a great version of a Charlie Manson song. Really like the Ray Charles version of Song For You and of course, Georgia On My Mind. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Okay, I'll partially retract my statement. He may not have "wiped the floor" with it, but I just personally have never liked Smokey's voice. When D'Angelo re-did it, it sounded a lot better to me (vocally). [This message was edited Tue May 11 12:17:41 2004 by okaypimpn]

Yeah, the lyrics were altered to the point of cartoonishness, singing "you ain't never caught a rabbit, and you ain't no friend of mine" over the sanitized music for middle America. While Thornton's original version by Leiber & Stoller was about a freeloading gigolo, "you ain't nothin but a hound dog snoopin 'round my door" sung over the music of a gritty, gutbucket juke joint swing. ` [This message was edited Tue May 11 17:34:43 2004 by Supernova] This post not for the wimp contingent. co-sign on both points. Smokey was the shit, but he did suffer from that "cornbread stuck in the throat" syndrome a la Alexander O' Neal when he sang. It was really exposed whenever Smokey sang ballads. And YUP D'Angelo's version of Cruisin' smokes Mr. Robinson's.

The sound is more explosive. It loses all meaning coming from a man, but it ROCKS

D'Angelo's not even in the same league as TLC or Ginuwine. Like Smokey, he's a songwriter and musician. I've never seen T-Boz, Chilli, Left Eye or Ginuwine play an instrument, so the comparision is really not that serious.
