Half of this cd has previously unreleased LIVE versions of songs that Donny did. Having said that, it is basically a Salvation project. The long awaited Donny Hathaway Anthology, "Love, Love Love" was postponed indefinitely. It may never come out. Something to do with Roberta Flack's involvement in the project . As a result, Rhino is releasing this project in lieu of the anthology. Donny always adds something to his live renditions. I've heard his version of Stevie's "Superwoman". It's a beautiful tribute to the Wonder man. Genius meeting Genius!! Don't sleep!! | |

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! I hear you!! But the way I look at it, it's better than nothing. We're missing out on about 4 new songs from the Anthology. Lalah Hathaway, Donny's daughter, received an advanced copy of the ANthology last year. She stated that it was 35 songs on 2cds. It included the hits, the Roberta Flack duets, Demos, outakes and Live material. We're getting some of the live stuff. The Outtakes? Oh well. One of them was a demo by Donny called "Extension Of A Man". This tune was probably an outtake from his cd "Extension Of A Man". I'll just keep hoping for the best. | |

Of course when it comes out, I might try to find out from the powers that be, what's up with the Anthology, but it doesn't look good. | |

If Roberta owns her masters, good for her!! It's better than getting screwed over by the record company. If this is the reason the project is on hold, I'm saddened by this development, but I'm happy that Roberta is in control of her legacy. I wasn't in the studio when she and Donny recorded those classics, so I shouldn't dictate to her what happens to her material. I hope one day it can be worked out. I tend to doubt it, since many of the previously unreleased live songs from "These Songs For You Live" were slated for the Anthology, particularly "Superwoman". | |

Considering that the bulk of Roberta's work was written by someone else, I don't see why that would be a major reason. On their duet LPs, if the material was original Donny wrote 75 percent of it. I love Rubina and all but if that's the reason for the indefinite postponement, she needs to get a grip or Rhino should just nix her duets from the release. Donny had enough great stuff to replace it and leave me satisfied. This is reminding me of the Miles Davis: The Last Word box set all over again.
