Aside from Prince's, whose music would be your "crack?"

(For the record, I mean absolutely no offense to actual crack users...)

Maybe it's when you're glum or happy. Maybe it's for some background music to set a mood. But when that feeling -- whatever that feeling might be -- hits you, whose music do you spin?

My short list:

1. Eric Clapton -- his guitar playing is just very emotional.
2. Stevie Ray Vaughan -- Ditto.
3. Nichole Nordeman -- picturesque writing, lush music and a knack for articulating the Christian experience.
4. The Sundays -- Harriet Wheeler's voice is pure sugar. Miss her and her husband's work.
5. Aretha Franklin -- her voice, especially back in the day, soooo moving.
6. Al Green -- self-explanatory.
7. Radiohead -- dem boys iz CRA-ZEEE!
8. Neil Finn -- (hurry up, Neil, with that new album. OK?)
9. Rich Mullins -- A songwriter's songwriter.
10. I -- hey, when you can't hear it in someone else's, write your own. smile

For me, ever since I was 8 years old, I can put on Janet and feel so much better over anything. I can relate to so much of her music, and it almost feels like I'm listening to a friend when I put on something like The Velvet Rope. Whenever I'm depressed, and no matter what the situation, I can put something of Janet's on and feel comfort! I love my JJ!
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

No offense to actual crack users. lol

I listen to so much stuff everyday, but I really don't have an actual preference. Prince is pretty much it cuz he feeds all of my needs, you know? The funk thing, the rock thing, the smooth jazz thing.

You mean music that feels too good to believe, even though I am at the same time aware it really does me bad in the end?

The only artists that I ever fiended for other than Prince would be:

Stevie Wonder
Ani Difranco
Jimi Hendrix
Miles Davis

I like a lot of artists but these are the only ones I just had to buy as much of their music as I could find. I guess I feel a real connection to these artists. It's more than just enjoyment for me with these artists.
