Essential Reggae, Dancehall, Ska albums I enjoy listening to these genres of music but I have yet to amass a worthy collection of these styles of music. Please help me out and list some Reggae, Dancehall, and Ska albums that are essential for any true connoisseur. Thanks!

Here is a list of some dancehall, I included mostly best of cd's so you could get a good sampling of each artists many songs. BUT PLEASE START WITH THIS CD!!!
- The Biggest Dancehall Anthems, 1979-82: The Birth of Dancehall- ESSENTIALS Buju Banton - Ultimate Collection Luciano - Ultimate Collection Sizzla - The Best of Sizzla: The Story Unfolds Capleton - The Very Best of Capleton: Gold Beenie Man - Best of Beenie Man Tenor Saw - Fever Super Cat - Don Dada Lady Saw - Raw: The Best of Lady Saw Barrington Levy - Too Experienced: The Best of Barrington Levy Ninjaman - Anything Test Dread: Reggae Anthology Chaka Demus and Pliers - Ultimate Collection Eek-A-Mouse - The Very Best of Eek-A-Mouse Shabba Ranks - Caan Dun (box set) Other artists to check: Cutty Ranks, Terror Fabulous, Mr. Vegas, Bounty Killer, Spragga Benz, Red Rat, Junior Kelly, Anthony B, Mad Cobra, Sean Paul Dancehall is a funny genre. Artists sounds differ from one another. Sample and see what you like. Today's dancehall is influenced very heavily from american hip hop and rap. It was more reggae back in the day. But great none the less..... As far as Reggae, these are no doubt essentials (aside from Bob Marley) Gregory Isaacs - Ultimate Collection Jimmy Cliff - Ultimate Collection Peter Tosh - Scrolls of the Prophet: The Best of Peter Tosh Burning Spear - Ultimate Collection Black Uhuru - Ultimate Collection Beres Hammond - Can't Stop A Man: Best of Sanchez - One In A Million: The Best of Sanchez Steel Pulse and Morgan Heritage are good too. Hope this helps.

For definitive Steel Pulse, try 'Sound System' from 1997, their first three albums + mixes on a double CD. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.
