Oh my god. How easy.

Remaster, Remaster, Remaster.

Everything before Diamonds and Pearls desperately needs it.

Remaster them with in-depth liner notes, bonus tracks that pertain to the period of the album.

Yeah, I'd give 'em back. Then I'd be his new best friend! Then, you know I'd have his ear! I'd say, "hey dude, let's get rid of that Larry character. What say we call up the whole Lovesexy band and y'all put on a concert for me!" Yeah...that's what I'd do. Then me & Prince would be bestest buds! We'd hang out, man! We'd study the Bible with nary a JW in sight, and every now and then we'd go out and have some chicken! Our women would hang out too. We'd go clubbin, and everyone would be so jealous! They'd all be sayin' "hey, who's that white boy hangin' with Prince?" and you'd be able to tell them "why that's P's new best freind, Jedipadawan! I knew him back when he was just a lowly poster to Prince.org". Yeah...that's what I'd do!

This is what I would do....

1) Release a boxed set--- Prince's music deserves to be presented in a dazzling,4-CD boxed set.All the hits, key album tracks, and a few B-sides should be included. There should be a huge booklet included, rare photos, remastered sound, and a $50 price tag, available just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

2) Remaster the old albums---Every album from 'For You' to 'Lovesexy' needs to be remastered, with bonus tracks, detailed liner notes and commentary, and rare bonus tracks.

3) Release Paisley Park albums,too---Not all of them, just the ones that fans are looking for....The Family,Jill Jones,Mazarati,Madhouse,The Time, and Sheila E.s three albums.Again, each CD should be remastered with bonus tracks, detailed liner notes, rare photos and commentary.

4) Release all 4 of Prince's movies in a deluxe 4-DVD (or 4-video) set, also just in time for Christmas.

5) Release a few compilations to appeal to casual fans---For example, why not release a collection of Prince's sexiest ballads, and call it 'Prince Charming: The Bedroom Ballads'? Or,how about a 'Paisley Park's Greatest Hits' set, containing the most popular hits on that label (Sheila's "A Love Bizarre",The Family's "Screams Of Passion")? Sheila E. and The Time also deserve to have greatest hits compilations, too.

I know some of us would have to get a second mortgage to afford all these goodies...lol...but it would be worth it:)

Anachronist

I'd return the rights to Prince if he promised to properly remaster and re-release (price: $17 an album) all of his albums up to "The Gold Experience", each remaster containing excessive liner notes and all the song edits and b-sides of each album's singles.

BanishedBrian

SOTT Movie on DVD would be my first priority, followed by emptying the Vault, releasing extended b-sides and then remastering.

As far as "giving" everything back to Prince... Sure, I'd "give" it back to him in exchange for him "giving" to me the $100+ million that WB gave him, along with the Paisley Park studios that THEY built for him with their money.

Sometimes I think P got y'all a bit brainwashed. Personally, I'm all for artists retaining their publishing rights and retaining ownership of their masters. I would advise anyone dealing with a record company to negotiate for those items at the outset.

However, if someone PAYS you for these items and you willingly sell them (like Prince did), then stop whining about it later. Back in 1984, I sold all of my Star Wars figures to a friend for $10. Was I coerced? Probably. Do I complain every day to anyone that will listen that I should still own these items? No.

Of course, there is a big difference between to the two scenarios. My Star Wars figures were worth a lot more than $10, whereas, Prince's masters as a whole are probably worth less than the cumulative amount that WB paid for them. If Prince wanted to, I'm sure he could re-purchase his entire catalog for the inflation-adjusted price that Warner paid. The reason he doesn't do this is because he spends so much money on his lavish lifestyle that he no longer has all that money. Personally, I don't shed any tears for his plight. Thus, if I owned his masters, he wouldn't be getting them unless I got paid fair market value.

I would give him the rights to them, but he would have to give me free tickets (10 per event) to his concerts of my choice, and I would also have to have copies of all of the music he writes,(forever) (he still will have the rights, I just want the music) and he would have to play at the weddings of all my children, plus my anniversary every 3 years. well maybe 4 or 5 years. And I would be invited to his childrens parties, graduation, and etc. Well yes I am selfish, but since we are talking about if. then that is what I would do.
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

WHAT ARE YOU ALL KIDDING?

If I gave the masters back, he would butcher them. He would re-edit them, remove the swears and anything controversial at all, market them improperly, and add a bunch of god-jargon in the liner notes.

The world would not be properly exposed to his brilliance. He would probably even pull some of the albums off the shelves entirely!

I would remaster them, add bonus tracks, leave the liner notes the same, and sell them. I would also bring out some of the out of print stuff like Madhouse and remaster that.

I would release definitive edition DVDs of SOTT, Unauthorized, and Purple Rain. Grafitti Bridge and UTCM, would be released to a small market, and although sound and picture would be remastered, not too much time would be spent on these because I want my masters to be profitable.

I would take a bunch of money from these masters, but in good faith, probably share a ton of it with P. Say, 50/50. If he mutilates the originals, I'm sure I could make at least twice as much as him anyways, so he wouldn't be losing out. Plus, I'd be doing all the work.

I know, he's the artist and it's not fair if he doesn't get his own masters, but I think it is much MORE unfair if the world doesn't get to see his evolution uncut, and witness his genius unaltered.

That's what I'd do. Get rich, and re-introduce him to a new generation (incidentally, I'm 18).

Yeah, I'd give the masters back. & assuming I was then given permission to release what I thought fit, I'd do the following...

1) Release remastered versions of all his albums, including 2 or 3 bonus trax on most discs.

2) Release 'lost albums' albums like Dream Factory.

3) Release a series of CD singles of every single he's ever released + tracks that should have been singles. They would all be e.p's containing all edits, remixes & alternate versions + b-sides.

4) A new, better packaged, remastered 'best of' for the casual buyer. And a in depth box-set for the fams containing previously unreleased extended versions, alternate takes etc.

5) Remastered DVD's of all his films with extra's. Like SOTT with ALL the tracks from the gig. Purple Rain with extra footage (did they actually shoot Jill Jones singing 'Wednesday'?)

6) Live in concert DVD's for the other major tours like 'Nude' & 'Gold' etc. or live compilations like Queen & Kiss have done.

About the Purple Rain extra scenes:

In the trailer on the DVD you can distinctly see struggling out of his dad's grip and punching him in the face, in the werehouse.

Plus there's a farm sex scene, and I heard somewhere that there is/was actually supposed to be a scene where he is outside, it's raining, and it's purple.
