Power of Soul Gets an 'A' from Philly.com Power of Soul gets an "A" from Philly.com
Posted on Tue, May. 04, 2004 Talented crew joins in tribute to Hendrix By JONATHAN TAKIFF takiffj@phillynews.com JIMI LIVES: Tribute albums rarely carry as much wallop as "Power of Soul" (Experience Hendrix), the most adept of several albums honoring the songs and creative spirit of Jimi Hendrix. The lineage is clearly drawn from the electric soul-rock original to Bootsy Collins and George Clinton ("Power of Soul"), Earth, Wind and Fire ("Voodoo Child [Slight Return]"), Prince (remaking "Red House" as "Purple House"), and Lenny Kravitz ("Have You Ever Been [to Electric Ladyland]"). Also lending their special touch are Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, musiq, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Cee-Lo, Eric Gales and an unearthed Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble concert performance of "Little Wing"/"Third Stone from the Sun," recorded at Philly's long-gone Ripley Music Hall. -A- | |
