Same for Outkast smile

From Contact Music: "Outkast hip-hop star Big Boi has a surprising musical hero - eccentric British singer Kate Bush. The 'Miss Jackson' rapper - real name Antwan Patton - credits his teenage musical development to Bush, and he's still so infatuated with the reclusive star he wants to track her down and get her to produce songs for his duo's next album. He says, "My uncle introduced me to Kate Bush's music when I was about 14 years old, and that shit opened my mind up. The first one I got was The Kick Inside, then I bought Hounds Of Love, then the The Sensual World. "She was so bugged out man! But I felt what she was talking about in the songs. Mother Stands For Comfort, Running Up That Hill. My uncle would explain what the songs stood for. Like The Man With The Child In His Eyes and all that shit. I thought, Wow! she's so f**king deep! I was infatuated with her, still am. I gotta track her down! I just found out that she was producing all that shit herself! She's so f***ing dope and so underrated and off the radar.

It's cool isn't it?

I LOOOVE that story! I remember the first time I heard the "Sensual World" as a black teenager in the American heartland, I almost lost my mind! It's was always one of my favorite "crush" songs whenever I'd be interested in a new boy, ex-husbands and current fiance included
cool... For me it would be Kate, I guess. Some of her songs have deep metaphorical meaning for me that represent certain turning points in my life as a young adult growing into full womanhood. I like Tori too, but Kate ends up first for me probably because I've listened to her longer and have had a longer time to identify with her work .

I hope all you Kate-mongers are happy. I bought 'Hounds Of Love' yesterday based on all your propaganda and I really like it! 'The Ninth Wave' was a bit strange overall, but I can see myself listening to this album many more times. Thanks!

Tori is still better, though.

That's why I like her. And I glad you enjoyed the album. wink

kate edit.

Yeah, she's an incredible songwriter. The stuff she was singing about in her 20's most people don't give a second thought to until they're half way through their lives.

Kate = worship

Honestly, TORI by a mile.

Nearly every song of Tori's blows me away and I have 'em all.

Whereas everything I've ever heard by Kate Bush annoys me for some reason. I don't know why. I want to like her, I just don't.

A shame. Maybe there's some stuff on the albums you'd like. shrug

you, with little faith. no faith, come to think of it, ha ha.

I heard that she has orgasms when she plays live, but fairies? wacky

she's always talking about fairies.

and at some points, during her performances, her eyes kind of cross and focus on a spot somewhere close to her face, as if she is seeing fairies. so that's what i figgered it was all about.

Well, she's a little mad. That's why I like her. Kate, Bjork and Stevie Nicks, too. They're all a bit out there. Them's my favourite girls. smile

And what's with the rainbow? lol

Oh, you're DEFINITELY not alone on that one! As much as I love The Kick Inside, her vocals do grate on my nerves at times. Oftentimes I just can't listen to the first two albums. I REALLY have to be in the mood for them.

Yeah, but with songs like Moving, The Saxophone Song, Kite, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Wuthering Heights, Oh To Be In Love & Them Heavy People you can forgive her some banshee vocals. smile

Lionheart, too. It's noticebly less shrill in places but she was still climbing up the scales. But again as it's home to Symphony In Blue, In Search Of Peter Pan, Wow, Oh England My Lionheart, Fullhouse and Hammer Horror she can be forgiven. worship

Oh, absolutely. I love the album, in spite of the wailing. Its so damned good, especially for a debut! Lionheart isn't quite as good, but there are still some great moments that let me see past the vocals.

Sarah Brightman is one artist I absolutely can't stand. I don't know what her appeal is. Oddly enough, her voice does nothing for me even though I love Tori and like Kate.

Sarah Brightman's appeal can be summarized in 4 words: Andrew Lloyd Webber's ho.

Why do you think she got as far as she did doing sub-par Enya?

I was at the Wrecka stow yesterday, after I got finish looking in the electronica section, I turned around and noticed A Sarah Brightman file card. She was filed underneath easy listening. eek ill lol

comparing the two artists is like comparing apples to oranges. they both are very intelligient, innovative, & passionate women who create beautiful melodies but are as different as nite is to day. i have to say that i love tori amos more than kate although i have many albums by both women. in fact, it was a friend that loved tori who introduced me to kate back in the early nineties. naturally, i was very impressed with kate';s work but it didn't hit home like tori amos. truthfully, there will never be another tori amos when it comes to the honest lyrics she writes or the incredible performances. i have never seen kate live but i've seen tori six times & am more than excited to see another show. kate didn't have the success of tori amos but look at all the women who came after tori who were more succesful. can anyone stick out their tongue & gag when i mention top forty jewel, boring paula cole, or that annoying vanessa carlton? guess nobunny thought of that.
