Honestly, TORI by a mile.
Nearly every song of Tori's blows me away and I have 'em all. Whereas everything I've ever heard by Kate Bush annoys me for some reason. I don't know why. I want to like her, I just don't.

Actually, I was referring to worldwide success. Overall, Tori has sold more albums. I thought neither Kate nor Tori did much business outside of their respective homelands.

I thought neither Kate nor Tori did much business outside of their respective homelands. Well, Kate was big in the underground "alternative music" scene in the US during the 80s. Tori was huge in the mid 90s. Now, Tori seems to have a fairly strong following, although the fanbase has cooled off into the hardcores. I really think Kate would have something similar if she'd been releasing albums and touring in the past decade. Alas, it is sadly not so. The Dreaming The Kick Inside The Sensual World I rate all of those over The Red Shoes. The only other two albums are Lionheart & Never Forever. Good albums both.

You're welcome. The Kick Inside is her debut. The vocals are a little shrill (she hadn't yet mastered control of her voice) but the songs are good. The Dreaming is her crazy, in your face even-if-you-don't-like-me-you-can't-ignore-me album and The Sensual World is the mellow one. Very beautiful. There's some gems on the other two albums as well but they're less essential, imo.

She sounds like a wailing banshee on that. I much prefer the new vocals for "Wuthering Heights" that she cut for The Whole Story, but I know I'm pretty much alone on that.

I did also for a long time, but these days there's just something about the original version that gets me all... I think the version on TWS is lacking a little something but I can't put my finger on what it is. I understand why you prefer it, tho'. Her vocals are a lot easier on the ear.

Definitely good choices. The Sensual World is fantastic, especially the songs with David Gilmour! The Dreaming :so damned good! This is where her weird, experimental side really began to blossom. The Kick Inside: if you can get past her voice, there are some great moments on this. Damned good debut, and you get a glimpse of the true artist she was to become. Oh yeah, I've recently stumbled across some material by Sarah Brightman, she has a track entitled "Beautiful" if I didn't know any better I would've sworn that was Kate's voice. I don't think any fan of Kate would be disappointed by this track.

Sarah Brightman is one artist I absolutely can't stand. I don't know what her appeal is. Oddly enough, her voice does nothing for me even though I love Tori and like Kate.

Sarah Brightman's appeal can be summarized in 4 words: Andrew Lloyd Webber's ho. Why do you think she got as far as she did doing sub-par Enya?

I REALLY have to be in the mood for them. Yeah, but with songs like Moving, The Saxophone Song, Kite, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Wuthering Heights, Oh To Be In Love & Them Heavy People you can forgive her some banshee vocals. Lionheart, too. It's noticebly less shrill in places but she was still climbing up the scales. But again as it's home to Symphony In Blue, In Search Of Peter Pan, Wow, Oh England My Lionheart, Fullhouse and Hammer Horror she can be forgiven.

I hope all you Kate-mongers are happy. I bought 'Hounds Of Love' yesterday based on all your propaganda and I really like it! 'The Ninth Wave' was a bit strange overall, but I can see myself listening to this album many more times. Thanks!
Tori is still better, though.
