It also has some killer linear notes. It's only $180 bucks new. But I did see it on ebay for $90 bucks and it's still sealed! I might even rebuy it at that price. Then I won't feel so bad about playing the set I already have. It's a true gem. If I had to go with any of her single releases I would say get The Kick Inside, Hounds of Love or The Dreaming. I like Running Up That Hill and Don't Give Up... But Paula Cole does a better job... HA! Don't make me hurt you! Give her a chance, she's definetly an aquired taste. Once you get to know her, you'll be hooked.

Stores are selling it for under $10 I think. Then based on whatever songs you like on there, get the respective album(s). That's much more practical.

Cause she's gonna end up wanting to own all of her stuff and everything that's on that Whole Story compilation is included in the box set. So, she's gonna end up wasting 10 bucks in the end when she just could've put it towards the cost of the box set. IMO the whole story isn't a great representation of her work.

Then again Tori bugged the fuck out of me until God and I didn't buy an album until Pele. I just don't think it's required to like Kate just because she came before Tori. I'm not all that into Sly and the Family Stone or any other acts that inspired Prince...

Did you buy them anyway? The only other Kate album I have is 'The Sensual World.' I will admit that all this Kate talk may inspire me to pick up 'Hounds Of Love'. I like the three songs I've heard from it (from 'The Whole Story') and many people agree that was her best album.

Same here... that's my point! I wont necessarily become a fan if I hear all her stuff. It might not touch me like it does you. Does Kate have anything that stands up to Professional Widow? Iieee? Cruel? Again, it's personal taste. Plus, timing is important. Maybe I'm too late to get into her stuff... maybe I'll be "ready" for her in the future... I did get The Red Shoes for obvious reasons and I didn't hold my attention. I must have sold it.

I just thought of something funny... I've been compared to both Tori and Kate by some pretty unreliable sources...
I'm sure they meant well. [This message was edited Thu May 6 14:28:07 2004 by VinaBlue]

Yeah, I bought that " This Woman's Work" box back in 90'... One of the best investments I ever made! I mean I knew of Kate, and I had Hounds Of Love and The Sensual World, but going through her whole body of work gave me a much greater appreciation for her...I hope the new album measures up ( whenever it shows up)...

Goodness! Kate has stuff that's a trillion times better than those songs. Granted, Professional Widow is a gem (not the lame remix) but Iieee and Cruel? Even Tori herself has done better work than that. However, like you say, it's all down to personal taste. Aside from the obvious similarities, one of the things both Kate & Tori do have in common is that they take a while to fully appreciate.

I think to a certain extent, the reason a lot of Kate fans have to rag on Tori is because she's had the success that many feel Kate should have had.
Ummm... I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. Are you speaking purely in terms of US success? 'Cos over here in the UK Kate's album sales shit all over Tori's. Actually, I was referring to worldwide success. Overall, Tori has sold more albums. Quite frankly, I think that its BS either way. Tori and Kate are both fantastic, regardless of how many discs they've sold. I just know that some people use this as a criteria for success (how many people have used the argument with Prince's albums?). Still, it seems the few Kate fans I've met who rag on Tori don't really have a real reason for disliking her. They seem bitter that someone who was influenced by Kate could have surpassed her in popularity. I really think anyone using the argument that Tori "copies" Kate have not really listened to her music. They've gone in pretty different directions. I love 'em both, and don't have to choose one!!!! Hell, the Dixie Chicks must be ripping off the Beatles 'cause Abbey Road has the guys walking across the street, and Home has the girls standing in the middle of one (and, of course, anytime I hear the Dixie Chicks all I can think is "gosh, these girls really are trying to sound like John, Paul, George and Ringo)!!! Of course, that doesn't explain how come Little Earthquakes and The Kick Inside sound nothing alike....
