What's the best track on Madonna's Erotica album?

I'd have to say "Deeper And Deeper". A subtle song about homosexual love, it's very well-written and has an incredibly dense production that just envelopes you and doesn't let go. The Latin flavourings on the instrumental break and the voice-only final line (when you least expect it) are also great touches. Her vocals are particularly strong on this track. Anyone remember the video for this? Very, very bad and very, very weird.

Deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper
Sweeter and sweeter and sweeter and sweeter

[Chorus:]

I can't help falling in love
I fall deeper and deeper the further I go
Kisses sent from heaven above
They get sweeter and sweeter the more that I know

When you know the notes to sing
You can sing most anything
That's what my mama told me
Round and round and round you go
When you find love you'll always know
I let my father mold me

[Bridge:]

Daddy couldn't be all wrong
(Not gonna let you slip away, I'm gonna be there)
And my mama made me learn this song
(You're gonna bring your love to me, I'm gonna get you)
That's why

[chorus]

The deeper I go
All is fair in love she said
Think with your heart, not with your head
That's what my mama told me
All the little things you do
Will end up coming back to you
I let my father mold me

[bridge]
[chorus, repeat]

Someone said that romance was dead
And I believed it instead of remembering
What my mama told me
Let my father mold me
Then you tried to hold me
You remind me what they said
This feeling inside
I can't explain
But my love is alive
And I'm never gonna hide it again

[bridge]
[chorus]

Deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper
Never gonna hide it again
Sweeter and sweeter and sweeter and sweeter
Never gonna have to pretend
[repeat]

You got to just let your body move to the music
You got to just let your body go with the flow
Falling in love, falling in love, falling in love
I can't keep from falling in love with you
You know there's nothing better that I'd like to do

A close second would be "Bad Girl", which is only enhanced by its cinematic video.

Rain. Great clip and since Lost in Translation is out, I guess she had some of Murray's 'Lat Pack' moments.

Lol, the version that came with her Sex book ("Erotic") has lines like "Bend over baby, I'm gonna make you smile". Hilarious stuff.

I'm totallt with you on that. Deeper and Deeper kicks ass. One of my favorite Madonna songs ever.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

While “Erotica” has many great tracks, I would have to go with the very underrated “Words”, a Indian (as in the country) influenced dance track where Madonna takes on her critics that lie or perhaps falls in love with a man (woman?...it was “Erotica”, after all) that uses words to seduce her. The funky jazzy “Secret Garden”, with it’s Madonna’s little voice sounding very girlish singing that sweet chorus, is also one of note.

The uptempo songs on this album are edgy and innovative, but my favorite track is the somber "Bad Girl".This is an outstanding track, and the lyrics find Maddy letting down her guard and showing a little vulnerability ("I'm not happy when I act this way" she admits). You can hear the pain and desperation in her voice as she sings "I can't bring myself to let you go".Musically, this song is gorgeous, with elegant, lush orchestration. And I'm really starting to think that the video for this song is her best, most interesting video. It could have almost been made into a really good movie! I'm thrilled that she might be performing this song on her upcoming tour.

"Bad Girl"

(written by Madonna and Shep Pettibone)

Something's missing and I don't know why
I always feel the need to hide my feelings from you
Is it me or you that I'm afraid of
I tell myself I'll show you what I'm made of
Can't bring myself to let you go

Don't want to cause you any pain
But I love you just the same
And you'll always be my baby
In my heart,I know we've come apart
And I don't know where to start
What can I do,I don't wanna feel blue

(chorus)
Bad Girl,drunk by six
Kissing someone else's lips
Smoked too many cigarettes today
I'm not happy when I act this way

Bad Girl,drunk by six
Kissing someone else's lips
Smoked too many cigarettes today
I'm not happy,I'm not happy

Something's happened and I don't know why
I fall apart everytime you hand your heart out to me
What happens now,I know I don't deserve you
I wonder how I'm ever gonna hurt you
Can't bring myself to let you go

Don't want to cause you any pain
But I love you just the same
And you'll always be my baby
In my heart,I know we've come apart
And I don't know where to start
What can I do,I don't wanna feel blue

(chorus)
Bad Girl,drunk by six
Kissing someone else's lips
Smoked too many cigarettes today

Bad Girl,drunk by six
Kisisng someone else's lips

Sorry to go slightly off-topic,but....

A demo version of "Take A Bow" has just surfaced.Recorded in 1994,this is an early version that doesn't feature Babyface's vocals. You can hear it by clicking this link...

I hope she gets Fincher back to direct at least one more video. He's always worked well with her (Express Yourself, Oh Father, Vogue, and Bad Girl).

I have to say I think Oh Father is a more compelling video than Bad Girl, though, probably because it's more personal (remember her mother's lips sewn up by the mortician? Great imagery). It's absolutely beautiful.

For me it is Waiting...it is a very special song to me. 'Well, I know from experience
That if you have to ask for something more than once or twice
It wasn't yours in the first place
And that's hard to accept when you love someone
And you're led to believe in their moment of need
That they want what you want but they don't'

It got me through a very messy time. wink

That song shuts up anyone who only thinks Madonna writes songs like "Angel" and sings songs like "Material Girl".
