uh...Name one song on the DWT that MAdonna mimed? That show was TOTALLY live. The only tour maddy mimed were the blond ambition and girly show and there were like 3 or 4 songs in each that were mimed.

Exactly. SOMEONE hasn't been watching their Madonna tours lol

Michael Jackson: Oh how the mighty have fallen. Every tour up and including the genius that was the Bad tour was synch free.

The Bad Tour is where he started lip-synching in his shows. The whole show would be sung live, except "Man In The Mirror." He'd lip-synch the first half of the song and then turn his mic on for the ending, just like he did on the AMA's (I think it was the AMA's). That was his downfall. Other than that you are right. I have "Triumph," "Victory" and "Bad" on video and they are straight live vocals.

Anytime my friend... you've never seen the Dortmund show until you've seen it on DVD transferred from the LaserDisc.

I have no sympathy for anyone that is "disappointed" after seeing Britney. It's their own damn fault for actually paying to see this chick mock strip, and shit, she doesn't even get naked! Why anyone would pay to see her is beyond me. They deserve what they got!

It's all good, she'll never burn me again, I learned my lesson. I only bought tickets so my daughters could see her.

Don't tempt me buddy! biggrin With that DVD, as I am likely 2 find ure house wherever u are and bring round a coupla brews.

Tours and live performance do not get any BETTER than that!.

Now on 2 Mike, of all the songs mimed, Man in the Mirror?... wow thats the one song that u'd think he wouldn't need the audio tape wink

On the other hand regarding Madonna ok maybe she didnt mime on DWT, but whether it's one tour or 60 it is NEVER acceptable 2 treat an audience with that level of contempt and arrogance stand up all those that I stated b4.

Some artists just don't care about vocals anymore. It's about everything else to them. The music comes second to looking good. Great performers aren't afraid to look ugly because it's about feeling something in your soul. And really great performers can sing live and look good at the same time. I think some young entertainers are confused by what it means to "put on a good show." It's quality not quantity. It sucks when the special effects include your voice.

The madonna Mime list:
Let's settle this once and for all:

Virgin Tour:
completely live.

Who's That Girl:
completely live.

Blond Ambition:
Some gigs she mimed these songs, some gigs she mimed parts of these songs,

Express Yourself
Causing A commotion
Where's the party
Vogue

Girlie Show:
Erotica (From France onwards)
Fever (only the first 3 gigs)
Vogue
Justify my Love (only the first spoken word part)

Drowned World:
Sky Fits Heaven

note: when miming, she always audibly sang over pre-recorded vocals
'Sky Fits heaven' & 'Erotica' (bar the 1st 2 Wembley gigs) r the only two songs she completely mimed

hmmm It's weird how the Britney threads always seem to turn into Madonna threads, just like all the Prince threads turn into MJ ones.

Very interesting. hmm

Didn't she also do "Now I'm Following You"? Only she anounced it as a total mime by saying "We're gonna do something really naughty... We're going to lip-synch... Oooohh"

I thought that was cool. Also, from what I remember, she sang along to backing tracks for those other songs, so you could hear her along with the studio version of her.

Ur right VinaBlue! I always skip the Dick tracy segment biggrin
And yes she used other recorded vocals 'Cherish' & 'Into the Groove' & 'Papa don't preach'
but those where used as backing vocals mostly during a chorus...so that don't count biggrin

Fair enough.

I bet these people whingeing about Britney didn't have the balls to demand their money back or just walk out. Surely, the knew what to expect, has anyone ever seen her sing live?

I saw a recording of her last tour on VH-1 and she sang live. It was awful and even my teenage kids were saying how crap a singer she is. Maybe after this experience she has decided to mime?

Is it me, or did R. Kelly not even have a microphone when he recently performed on the Soul Train Music Awards? He got a standing ovation, too. For the life of me I can't figure out what that was about.

You guys have me rolling 2nite. I can't stop laughing. toooo funny. NO MIC?

I'm pretty sure Prince was guilty of this kind of thing on the Lovesexy tour, if nowhere else. Firstly I remember an interview (last 5 years?) where he admits it. I also remember Paul McCartney saying ca. 1988 that he loved Prince, but that the show he saw was "all backing tapes". Last piece of evidence: the LovesexyLive video, I'm certain, has a bit, during Kiss I think, where the backing tapes cut out for a second and Prince goes 'oh lord'. But probably the vocals were all live! Why Prince of all people would do it is unfathomable, at least to a non-musician like me. But that was years ago, and anyway I could have been mistaken.

Yes, Lovesexy, I looked at the tape again (first time in years!!) and it would appear that you are right. Still, I'm pretty sure (not saying "certain" this time in case I get caught out!) that Prince has admitted using backing tapes in the past.

You are right about the backing vocals. He defenitely went through a period of time where none of his musicians could sing very well and they would play a sample of his vocals during certain parts of songs. I used to crack up everytime Morris Hayes was acting like he was singing, but it'd be Prince's voice. Unless he was filming a music video or performaing on certain TV shows, his mic is usually on.

lol They only did that little running-in-place/hopping/skippy thing, and then jogged around kicking their knees up in the air like they were taking an aerobics class. That's about all they could do. hah!

Britney lip-syncs to everything.. I guess she can't shake her ass and sing at the same time.
