Brits shocked that Britney would *GASP* mime her entire setlist

By MARTEL MAXWELL
at Wembley Arena

POP babe BRITNEY SPEARS stunned a sell-out UK crowd last night by MIMING through her entire set.

Britney, 22, looked sensational in a skin-tight PVC catsuit as she kicked off her tour in London.

But the 12,000-strong Wembley Arena crowd — who had paid at least £30 each for tickets — could not believe it when she started lip-synching to a backing track.

One angry fan said: “If I wanted to see somebody mime to music, I would have gone to Top of the Pops.”

Britney — who had a No 1 with Hit Me Baby One More Time — began her hi-tech show with a dazzling display of pyrotechnics.

She then launched into her latest hit Toxic.

With her figure-hugging suit showing off her curves, fans were looking forward to a raunchy show to outdo rival Christina Aguilera.

But they were shocked when they realised the star had ducked out of singing live.

They hoped for more with her second track Overprotected — but again were left disappointed as Britney continued to mime and kept it up throughout the show.

The fan added: “I’ve saved up to see Britney — and I’m extremely disappointed.”

BRITNEY raked in £17MILLION from the sale of T-shirts and posters during her latest American tour — beating Madonna’s record.

She's cheating fans

SHOWBIZ Editor Victoria Newton writes: I’ve no idea why Britney felt she had to mime. She is one of our biggest, brightest and sexiest stars, she has a great voice and a great body to match (WTF?) — but why cheat fans with a mimed performance?

Some of her biggest devotees have waited for years to see her perform live and are devastated that she has sold out.

I’m sure that Britney is going through a tough time in her life, but there’s no excuse for not performing at the highest level when you are being paid millions of pounds.

=====

And whatever Victoria Newton is smoking, I want some! Must be some good shit.

I have seen Madonna and Janet lipsync time-to-time on TV performances, but to my knowledge neither of them have lipsynced their entire tour. I don't think any other dance act has lipsynced their entire tour either except for, well.

Fair enough.

I bet these people whingeing about Britney didn't have the balls to demand their money back or just walk out. Surely, the knew what to expect, has anyone ever seen her sing live?

maybe it really isn't britney's voice on her records - maybe it's someone else (a la "Milli Vanilli")

I can't speak for Madonna since I quit paying attention to her after "True Blue" and I never did see her live.

Michael used to lip-synch half of his songs. In other words he'd lip-synch while dancing to the main part of a song, then his mic would turn and then he would start ad-libbing. All his "Heeees" and "Hoooos" would be live.

Janet on the other hand, was probably the first person to lip-synch her whole show, mainly to focus on the dancing. The way she fooled everybody is, she re-recorded her vocals to sound live and lip-synched to that.

I know because I recorded her "Rythym Nation" tour when she came to Denver, back in '90, and then my friend picked up a video of that tour from Japan. Every note, every word spoken during the songs, were exact. Her mic would turn on to address the crowd and that was it.

Now Britney is doing the same exact thing. What impresses me more than her dancing choreography is the microphone choreography. Someone has to turn her mic off at the right moment she starts lip-synching and turn it on as soon as she wants to say something to the crowd. Now that's impressive.

Needless to say I was quite dissappointed, as were my daughters, after seeing her previous tour a few years back. Complete waste of money. Now I don't buy her music nor will I go to her concerts after watching her lip-synch, or "mime" as the Brits call it.

It's hard to "walk out" on $300 tickets, but you're right, I should've demanded my money back.

The only time I ever heard her sing live was on SNL when she performed "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know," during her 1st stint as host. Of course she was sitting on a chair and barely moved, no dancing whatsoever. Her other performance that night, and the next 2 performances on SNL were completely lip-synched. No respect for SNL for letting her do that.

I remember seeing her "live" on the Janet tour. She did that fake crying BS during a song and my friend, who was a HUGE Janet fan, said she did the same thing on her previous tour.

Not just pointing the finger at Janet, but that is more common than most people realise. Lot's of acts do this.

This is true. Before the music world became all about videos, it didn't really matter what you looked like so much. It was about the music, not only an image. This quote, SHOWBIZ Editor Victoria Newton writes: "I’ve no idea why Britney felt she had to mime. She is one of our biggest, brightest and sexiest stars, she has a great voice and a great body to match" is just gross. So people are supposed to pay hundreds of dollars just to see someone with great body? Shit, I'll just look in the mirror for that. hrmph

There is really no excuse for this. Not that Im surprised.Britney Spears couldnt carry a tune in a bucket anyway.

The idea that she has to dance is no excuse either.A talented vocalist can do both.Like Prince for example.

I would suggest to BS, that while she's in London, to pick up a copy of Kate Bush: Live At the Odeon, to see how its done.It was filmed in 1980 on Kate's only tour and she manages to dance(and mime!) and sing throughout.Only once is a taped vocal used, and Kate doesn't pretend that she's singing on it.

Some artists just don't care about vocals anymore. It's about everything else to them. The music comes second to looking good. Great performers aren't afraid to look ugly because it's about feeling something in your soul. And really great performers can sing live and look good at the same time. I think some young entertainers are confused by what it means to "put on a good show." It's quality not quantity. It sucks when the special effects include your voice.

Is it me, or did R. Kelly not even have a microphone when he recently performed on the Soul Train Music Awards? He got a standing ovation, too. For the life of me I can't figure out what that was about.

I have no sympathy for anyone that is "disappointed" after seeing Britney. It's their own damn fault for actually paying to see this chick mock strip, and shit, she doesn't even get naked! Why anyone would pay to see her is beyond me. They deserve what they got!

[b][i]Excellent point Lovesexy, she was the first major artist 2 lip synch an entire show.
Janet thought that she was slick goin in2 the studio and getting Jimmy 2 come up with new 'live' vocal reimaginings lol I remember once she even had panting and some out of breath banter recorded also!!!

lol Lets be straight. Here are the facts...

Madonna now mimes on tour: Every tour since the epocal Blonde Ambition has featured significant live miming.

Michael Jackson: Oh how the mighty have fallen. Every tour up and including the genius that was the Bad tour was synch free. The Dangerous Tour soon put an end 2 that.

Britney no surprise....she's a sham! And is no heir 2 Madonna if any one is that it's Aguilera without doubt. They have the same love 4 Trash.

But Janet started this particular trend.
