If you have been keeping up with some entertainment news lately, P. Diddy has taken a giant step into acting by playing the role of Walter Lee Younger from Lorraine Hansberry's " A Raisin in the Sun ". This is the role solidified if precious stone by Sidney Poitier both on stage and screen. Sean Combs- official stage name - and cast can be seen at the Royale Theatre in NYC.

I am not from NYC, so I can't personally account for his skills with stage acting. That's best left for those who live in NYC and can go to the show. My general opinion on him taking the role with no formal acting skills on stage or screen- his role in Halle's & Billy Bob's movie was decent, but a small one - is that it's a terrible idea. The best he can do is garner attention for the play from hip hop bobbleheads whom otherwise would never venture near a theatre show. His business acumen aside, how can he handle this role, which calls for him to deal with harsh bigotry of the 50's era, Walter's own personal demons and failings, the ultimate failure and subsequent redemption that follows for Walter. All of P's pomp and circumstance persona is best suited for the arena he's in, MUSIC.

I've been to a few theatre plays, and can only imagine the amount of work it takes to be in character and endure all of the critiques that will come. Add to that the amount of performances that one goes through on a weekly basis. Can Sean Combs pull through? Will he surprise us with a superb show and have a standing ovation? Will his endevour bring young h/h bobbleheads to an appreciation for Broadway theatre- off and on Bway-? Only time will tell.
