Not really, but she ain't no spring chicken either: my friend, you are looking at the one, the only, the ORIGINAL "ANGIE B" who was in the first female rap group SEQUENCE (Was that 1979?)
who were the female counterpart to THE SUGAR HILL GANG with the rap hit "FUNK YOU UP" (which Erykah Badu covered with Angie, Queen Latifah and somebody else on her cd WORLDWIDE UNDERGROUND). Now, if I did that song in my elementary school talent show when it came out, and I was like 8 or 9 years old, and she was GROWN when it was released, we can safely say that she is now not of the age where she should be weary sexy, shimmy, mini-dresses with popping boobage just because she dropped a few pounds
lol !

Tina Turner does.....so much agism on this site at times...lawd...if you look good, you look good....i doubt Angie will look like some hoe.

and regarding her hair.....and from someone who was the QUEEN of the weave in the earlier 90's, the issue I have is not with having a weave but the type of hair black women buy nowadays. I look at Babs on Makin' the Band....hair just falling out....yet she has that silky yak hair glued to her head.

And in truth, I doubt that she would go for that hoe look either. My statement was just a blanket statement to say that NOT EVERYBODY needs be running around in a sexy shimmy micro mini-dress. I'm puzzled as to why no one seems to be getting that.

Now Ms. TINA- OBVIOUSLY that's a different story. But keep in mind that Tina is a near impossible standard for women of certain age to hold themselves up to when it comes to rocking those revealing clothes. In all sincerity, how many women can you think of, be it a celebrity or everyday diva, are able to work a silver sequined Versace micro-mini with black stiletto heels at 55+? Not very many, I would think. But the that's the great thing about show business, I guess. When you got it like Ms. Tina has it, you can REALLY work it- Just run around the stage in those lil' minis as long as you damn well feel like it! But you know what Rhondab? As quiet as it's kept, I've seen Tina Turner so many times in Europe over the past ten years, in France, Austria, and Germany...usually while she's shopping (though she's adored over here, she moves about pretty freely without much hassle from the general public)... and the thing that I've always noticed about her is that when she's not on stage, she actually dresses fairly conservatively! She usually wears pants and a crisp shirt with leather driving laofers...very aristrocratic and darned near preppy! So my observation is that even TINA tones it down for her age, when she's not shimmying her stuff on stage that is!

I guess in the end you COULD say that I'm definitely an "agist". While I believe in women should claim their beauty and femininity, I also believe that we can't be putting IT ALL out there once we reach a certain age, period (unless we're blessed with genes like TINA!!!).
I remember when I was young and fine and running through the discos of Brazil and Miami
the 60's look had rolled back around (I was 20 or 21 I think): honey, my running buddies and I were a size 2 put together and I remember we spent an entire year basing our club clothes on what 60's go-go boots or hot pants we would wear (that's right, HOT PANTS)! You couldn't tell us NOTHIN', lol biggrin biggrin But those were different times, not much unlike the days of Studio 54- anyway, the point is that what I was able to wear then is not really appropriate for me now as I close in on my mid 30's... there are other things I can wear to play up my femininity without going completely overboard... and the hotpants are SO definitely not in that catagory

lol

I do, by the way, think that Tina is also the standard (as of the last 5 years or so) for how to wear hair that's obviously not your own. I love the short honey wig she's been wearing for the last years. The color and texture looks nice against her skin. However that's not really the case, as you so clearly pointed out, with Babs...

OMG Looking at these pictures really TAKE ME BACK to 8 years old!!!!! I remember that all my little classmates and I LOOOOOVED to do that rap over our little lunchboxes! I did the Blondie part of the rap in the school talent show- I remember they had us singing to the record, kareoke style- it was so much fun! We ended up winning, awarded with some little prize I can't remember, and then a coke and pizza party for our class! I remember that was the first time I held a microphone in my hand and I was studying that thing like I was a damned stage tech. I also remember the teachers hearing all these words being spoken on the record and saying "What kind of music IS THIS???They're not singing! They're only talking!!!" Some of those same teachers were the very ones whose feet were a tap-tap-tappin' the floor once the actual performance had begun lol !

Btw, anyone catch her latest shows yet? I may see her on the 15th.. with Van Hunt. I saw her open up for Maxwell and she was pretty boring, but I love her albums.

Joi

There are some women in their 30s and 40s that look better than 20-somethings. I'm 37 and I'll put on some low-rise jeans and a halter top with no hesitation. Course, if my belly was hanging out and my back had rolls of flesh, I'd be wearing a daishiki…LOL. But if you still got it, why not flaunt it. Believe me, my 16 year old son would check me if he thought mama looked like a hoochie.

BTW, did anyone see Raquel Welch on Larry King Live last night? I wanna be that fine when I'm 63.

Regarding Babs...why doesn't PDiddy do something about her hair? And while he's at it, Dylon and Chopper need a dermatologist.

You know, in America, this is reality: A fat woman cannot be a star. Double standard. Look at Ruben Studdard? Sexist culture.
