Well if he's in the same pot as Maxwell then I'm cool with that. I think Maxwell is a top 5 artist of today so if we disagree on that then your opinion of Remy is understandable. Just don't think race plays a part with him like it does Justin.

Why would race play a part with one and not the other? I'm a little confused here. confuse That sounds like a contradiction to me.

Justin's being hyped as the "new" Michael Jackson. You also hear it said he has a "black pass". Justin sums up the great white hype. Nobody said Remy was going to save soul music or said he had a "pass"

Got love for okaypimpin, but I am with 916 on this one. No one is hyping Remy as the next Stevie or Al, but he's put out good product in his own right. We should embrace him for that, not hate on him, even if the mass media might hype him or overhype him.

After all, many if not most of his black counterparts in "R&B" aren't puttin' it down like him.

I look forward to hearing more from him.

Much love to you, too, namepeace! thumbs up!

However... I just personally don't see what all the hoopla is about him. confused I don't have anything against him and certainly not because he's white (that's so 1950-ish). It's just when I hear his music, I'm not moved or impressed. That's just my personal feeling towards him. The only reason why I said he's the "Great White Hype" is because that's what a lot of people have already labeled him and said how he's the "answer" to soul music, when in fact he's headed right into same melting pot as the other "answers" such as Jill Scott, Thicke, Maxwell, India.Arie, etc...

P.S. Who ever said he was the next "Stevie or Al"? whofarted

I can understand, perhaps I read too much into the "White Hype" comment. I thought that you meant by that comment that people were overhyping his artistic worth by comparing him to Stevie or Al. I had assumed you had seen overhyped comments of that kind when I saw that remark. But remember, Kurt Loder compared Justin to Stevie and at least Remy can play an instrument! wink

Anuhweigh, I don't think you hate on musicians solely b/c of their race. The comment was meant to be general. I read the reviews of his LP on Amazon.com when it came out and people seemed to hate on him just because he is white. It was from that perspective that I wrote what I did.

Keep on keepin on . . .

Oh really? This is my first time hearing that in regards to Remy. Now Justin I've heard that often, but in his case his pass has been revoked.

let's just put this black & white issue to an end shall we? I knew it HAD to show up at some point in this thread.... but hey, we're living in 2004...

nobody would think of calling Alicia or Usher "the great BLACK hype"

this subject is just so damn old, so let's keep it in the closet please

clapping Remy's CD is more soulful than most of the plastic R&B crap that dominates the radio these days (R.Kelly,Ginuwine,etc).Unlike those guys,Remy is from the "old school" when it comes to creating music. He's not the least bit interested in hip-hop gimmicks and "gangsta" posturing. His album is all about memorable melodies, incredible chord changes, breathtaking vocals, lush harmonies and of course, REAL musicianship (his album is sample-free,which is refreshing).
