Rhondab

make a good album, chill with the sex kitten stuff....Be the Janet Jackson we know and love...but I'm so tired of the sex kitten, whispery, whiny voice.

and have a good marriage with JD. Ya'll kill me talking about how a person looks vs if the relationship is solid.

Yeah they should have released da album at the height of dat superbowl booby incident...now dat da backlashing is happenin, people are more likely 2 not give her da benefit. Mind u, i have not heard her new album. Her new song is okay, but lacks da kickarse sexy wif attitude effect she so totally had goin on in some of da stuff she's released in da past. I still love Janet though nod thumbs up! woot!

It proberly was the most expensive 'cause:-

1)Mj apparantly wrote about 70 (or around their) new songs from it, most of which might of been recoded/mixed!
2)He spent so damn long on and off on the project
3) He used expensive producers
4)The best recording studios
5) I heard around 1999 that an album he just completed back then got scapped for one reason or another-adding more expenses
6) Michael is a real perfectionist in the studio spending long hours remixing/adding/overdubbing thus racking up more studio time (and remember these are the most expensive recording studios in the world with the most expensive producers in the world!)

These may not be true, but sound typical Mj who spends so stupidly long on each album thus creating massive hype on album which could not possibally live up to expectation of media/fans! This would not be the case if he released an album every 2 yearsas the pressure would not be so much! Also it cheats his fans who have to wait bloody ages for a new product of his (and Iam one of those frustrated people!)

It's still early but it looks like Damita Jo is going to go down as one of her leas sucessful albums in years. While I liked "All For You" that album didn't do the business they had hoped either. You know her label isn't going to sit around and let her release another big budget album that fails to reach number one. Janet fans, where do you think she will go from here?

Its been "rumoured" mj and jj are working on a duet! It may be a complete hoax but mj didnt attend the wedding ceremony of a friend of his(a producer worked for invincible i think) so that producer said he is dueting with janet!

Personally I think MJ didnt go not to fuck the wedding up! It would turn into a media event!

Anyway that would be cool if theyre duetting as i like Scream a lot

when i go out to a club, i put damita jo on to get me ready to dance. but it doesn't make me think. it doesn't make me say..."wow, listen to that!" velvet rope did. rythym nation did. to me, damita jo is janet. Part II. that's not bad. but it's not re-invigorating.

.

DOESNT MAKE ME THINK! SAME HERE! It is a nice album..but like u said..nothing groundbreaking and non thoughtful like Velvet Rope and Rhythm Nation...TRU DAT!

With the Lena Horne thing dead in the water, i wouldn't be surprised if JJ doesn't wed JD after a tour and start having a family.

Where does Janet go from here? For starters, she should do this...

*** GET RID OF JAM AND LEWIS ---don't get me wrong,I think these guys are extremely talented and they are largely responsible for Janet's amazing success in the 80s and beyond. But let's face it,it's time for a change. Many of their recent productions sound stale and uninspired (it's sad to see real musicians like Jam and Lewis having to "adapt" to the current sounds of R&B by utilizing samples).Nowadays, they work with everyone from Mariah Carey to Mary J.Blige, and clearly there's just not enough good material left for Janet. To her credit,Janet at least called up a few other guys (Kanye West and Dallas Austin) to produce a few tracks, and not surprisingly, they provide Janet with the album's best songs.I think she should have considered having Dallas be her main producer ("Just A Little While" is incredible).

*** TRY SOME DIFFERENT STYLES OF MUSIC ---As I pointed out on another Janet thread, today's R&B music is creatively dead. There's very little innovation going on in this genre.Nowadays,a typical R&B song features samples, predictable lyrics about sex, heavy bass and not much more."Not much more" is the operative phrase here.At this point in her career,Janet could have really surprised people by going in a bold, challenging direction for once.Imagine Janet tackling a few kickass electroclash jams,or several strong rock tracks produced by someone in that genre.I think she would have gained alot of artisitic credibility if she had been willing to try something different, instead of just making the same album once again.

*** WRITE LYRICS ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES SEX ---My favorite Janet album is 'Rhythm Nation',which is lyrically deep and covers alot of ground. But since 1993,Janet has been playing the "sex kitten" role, with song after song about getting laid. She's in danger of becoming a one-dimensional artist with nothing meaningful to say in her music.I actually think Janet is a good songwriter and she's capable of brilliance, but lately, she's content to waste her talents on tired sexual themes. With everything that's going in the world today, songs like "Sexhibition" and "Moist" aren't even shocking or the least bit provocative.

There's no need to panic or anything.Janet is still in a good position career-wise,and if she tours this fall (as planned),she will have no trouble selling out arenas. But when it comes time to do her next album, she may wanna think carefully about where she wants to go,lyrically and musically.Another sex-themed Jam and Lewis-produced R&B album from her probably won't make a big splash. She's at the crossroads.

Very well said, and as the die-hard, obsessive Janet fan that I am, I agree with most of that, although janet. and The Velvet Rope were not solely based on sex, though they are both sexy albums.
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

Great points Davideye. Janet needs to grow up and stop acting as though she's still 21. She needs to mature and maturity needs to be reflected in her music. No one gives a shit about her 'sexual' songs anymore. She is one-dimensional unfortunately. Her voice is weak and her lyrics are boring. I've heard her new cd a few times at a friends and there is nothing inspiring or interesting about it. Jam and Lewis did great things for Janet over the years, but they all need to move away from each other. Janet has some talent, no doubt about that, but she hasn't used it in years IMHO!
