does anybody remember BROWNSTONE??

I like this trio...
I don't know what happened to them. Just when they released the second album Still Climbing(MJ productions), they split.
Why? One of the original members was replaced after the first cd "From the bottom up"

I love their version of I Can't Tell You Why. Though the video version (R&B) was never released on the single cd (only the edit is on there)

Great vocals.
Nicci Gilbert (the co- composer of manyof their songs- and lead singer too) was about to release a CD "Grown Folks Music" in 2002 on MCA.
It was never released but there were some copies around... I got mine at ebay.

Anybody???

Absolutely... I should go pull it out now. I love their remake of "I Can't Tell You Why"... it always seems or I am just getting old... the good bands are in the past. Or perhaps I just haven't had much time or a life (musically aware life) to know what exists, other than Prince. smile

Didn't Michael Jackson work with them a couple of times? My favorite cut off that first album was 'Sometimes Dancin''. Great group, great songs.

I guess I slept on the original lineup, but I love Kina. What a voice.

I love both versions of that group,my fave female group of the 90's even though Monica Doby did get a raw deal first time around,Kina was a vocally and harmoniously a beautiful addition,I love her vocals on their remake of "If you play your cards right" her voice is very reminicent of Alicia Meyers who did the original.Even though they only have 2 album releases and Kina's solo album...I still very much enjoy this group.Nicci,Maxi,Mimi,& Kina....where are you all? please rescue us from sub par mediocre wanna be song birds.
I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back.
I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.
I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish.
