1993-1995 was a kick ass time period for music! Lenny Kravitz - Are you Gonna Go My Way 3/9/1993
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream 7/27/1993 Nirvana - In Utero 9/21/1993 En Vogue -Runaway Love (Ok this is a single but it reminds you how incredible "Funky Divas was) 9/21/1993 Me'Shell N'Degeocello - Plantation Lullabies 10/19/1993 Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies 1/25/1994 Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral 3/8/1994 Soundgarden - Superunknown 3/8/1994 The Brand New Heavies - Brother Sister 3/22/1994 Hole-Live through this 4/12/1994 Dee Lite - Dewdrops in the Garden 8/2/1994 Lucious Jackson - Natural Ingredients 8/23/1994 Madonna - Bedtime Stories 10/25/1994 PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love 2/28/1995 Joan Osborne - Relish 3/21/1995 Radiohead - The Bends 4/4/1995 Tricky - Maxinquaye 4/18/1995 Bjork - Post 6/13/1995 Prince - The Gold Experience 10/1995 All these albums still get regular rotation in my player. I draw so much strength from music and this time period in my life was very hard and depressing and I had so many incredible albums to get me through life. All these albums . I 100% agree with you. I'm amazed of the music that I bought during that time. I also bought a lot of the cassette singles. I wish they would go back to having singles. This is why I don't purchase a lot of cds now. I don't trust the new artists.

How old were both of you then? The reason I ask, is people tend to view the music on their late teens early 20's as special. I hated the mid 90's as that was when R&B really seemed to take a turn for the worse. I think things have gotten better since then. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

For me this was 23-25. I know what you mean about the music of the 90s. But pick up any of these albums and you will see that these are very strong albums. Strong enough to keep me interested in hearing them a decade later.... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

That was a really bad time for soul music. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

I'd like to add to the list:
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders (1993) Wu Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang(36 Chambers) (1993) Seal - Seal (1994) (Supa, how could you forget Seal?! ) I was thinking about adding II (1994) from Boyz II Men, but I don't know if the music still stands up. I guess Water Runs Dry is still a cool song....

I don't know if I agree with you. If you take any era you can find some great albums. But I do agree with most of your selections. Here are a few I would add:
Suede-Suede (1993) Suede-Dog Man Star (1994) Blur-Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993) Blur-Parklife (1994) Blur-The Great Escape (1995) Oasis-Definitely Maybe (1994) Oasis-What's The Story Morning Glory (1995) Pulp-His 'N Hers (1994) Pulp-Different Class (1995) Manic Street Preachers-The Holy Bible (1994) Can you tell I like Brit-Pop? I do agree with the person who said this was a dismal period for soul/R & B music. Seemed like everyone was trying to be rappers back then.

TTD - Symphony Or Damn TTD - Vibrator Lenny Kravitz - Circus Joni Mitchell - Turbulent Indigo Neil Young - Harvest Moon Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See Nas - Illmatic Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Turbulent Indigo - absolutely, one of her best albums ever. I don't necessarily accept the assertion that there was something exceptional about music from this span of time, but it's fun to play along. I'll add the following: Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain Magnetic Fields - Charm of the Highway Strip Massive Attack - Protection Pet Shop Boys - Very Jimmy Dale Gilmore - Spinning Around the Sun Stereolab - Transient Random Noise Bursts With Announcements Tricky - Maxinquaye Yo La Tengo - Painful (I think this was 93 - could have been 92 - I'm too lazy to check) Mercury Rev - See You On the Other Side Boo Radleys - Giant Steps (I'm sorta on the fence on this one, but I still listen to it a fair amount) Plastikman - Musik and Sheet One Saint Etienne - Tiger Bay and So Tough High Llamas - Gideon Gaye Portishead - Dummy Actually, I think I may have convinced myself - this was a fairly exceptional period. I was originally of the mindset that the early nineties was a better period. This was mostly due to the fact that I'm a massive My Bloody Valentine fan and Loveless came out in '91, but looking over what I've listed and what's been listed before me, I guess I've changed my mind. You can sorta squeeze them in here, they did to a very cool cover of "We Have All The Time In The World" in 1993.

That's right, I completely forgot about that track - I think they did a Wire cover for some compilation around this time as well. I go back to Loveless more than any other album I own - at least two or three times a year I'll go through a period where I'll play that record obsessively. I think it's really one of the few rock albums since the sixties that you could call "brilliant" or "ahead of it's time" without wanting to barf. Have you been following any of Kevin Shield's recent recordings?

As for pop/rock music, I will defer that for another day.
As for hip-hop, absolutely. 1993-95 wasn arguably the greatest time period for hip-hop. Consider the albums dropped during that time: A Tribe Called Quest -- Midnight Marauders Black Moon -- Enta Da Stage Dr. Dre -- The Chronic KRS-ONE -- Return of the Boom Bap Gang Starr -- Hard To Earn The Roots -- Do You Want More Brand Nubian -- In God We Trust Digable Planets -- Reachin' Jeru The Damaja -- The Sun Rises In The East Wu-Tang Clan -- Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) De La Soul -- Buhloone Mind State Digable Planets -- Blowout Comb The Notorious B.I.G. -- Ready To Die Common Sense -- Resurrection Snoop Doggy Dogg -- Doggystyle Nas -- Illmatic Beatnuts -- The Beatnuts Redman -- Dare Iz A Darkside Mobb Deep -- The Infamous Raekwon -- Only Built For Cuban Linx Smif 'N Wessun -- Dah Shinin [This message was edited Sun Apr 25 1:08:42 2004 by namepeace] Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
