ok, ya'll can join in on this one: I've been trying to let it go for a while now, but I can't.
I've been reading a lot 'bout this upcoming film by the Hughes brothers, and their confilt with the Hendrix estate, etc. I went rounds on this last night with a friend and we completely disagree, now it's your turn to weigh in on the issue:

As the filming of Be Cool, the sequel to the 1995 film Get Shorty comes to a wrap, the multi talented Andre 3000 (who plays himself in the film) is gearing up for his next on-screen endeavor. He'll be playing none other than Jimi Hendrix in an as-of-yet untitled biopic of the rockstar's life. Andre told MTV.com yesterday that "I've actually been trying to do this for four or five years. I've read biographies, seen every documentary, and seen every performance." Andre has also been trying to build on his guitar/air guitar playing skills. "I'm not a great guitar player," he explained. "I can just play [good] enough. But you can act, fill it out and flip this screen--because I'm not left-handed [like Hendrix] either."

The idea for the film was conceived of by the Hughes Brothers (From Hell, Menace II Society). The have reportedly shot about 15 minutes of rough footage for aesthetic purposes, but are still waiting to hear back from the Hendrix estate on weather or not they have permission to continue shooting.

OUTKAST's ANDRE 3000 is in talks to play rock legend JIMI HENDRIX in an upcoming film.
Directed by the Hughes brothers, the film will follow Hendrix's stardom, up till his death aged 27 in 1970, reports XFM.
Andre will also star in Elmore Leonard’s 'Be Cool', the sequel to 'Get Shorty', with Danny DeVito.
As previously reported on NME.COM, OutKast will appear in their own film 'Speakerboxxx', a musical set in an undertakers. Directed by Brian Barber, the soundtrack to the film will be the band's next album.

my : I say it'll be ice cold!!!! First of all b/c it'll be an instant Cult classic. Second of all b/c Andre has the fan base to pack in the theatres. and third of all b/c he's still 'hungry'. It'll be great!

My friend says it'll bomb b/c Andre can't act, he can't play left-handed-and-upside-down, and he's alienated his fan base too much.

What do you guys say?

I don't think anyone can. But I support Andre in entertaining me on the silver screen while giving me a new/another perspective on Jimi. Accuracy won't be my goal when I go to see this film. It's gonna be purely about entertainment.

They should ask Prince to do the guitar overdubbing for Andre.
