Savage Garden

U all need 2 check them out! It's 2 guys, and one of them (Darren Hayes) is clearly inspired by Prince. How about this:

*He said that he wrote their song Truly madly deeply while listening 2 TMBGITW.

*Another one of their songs is called I knew i loved you, and was inspired by a comment Prince made about knowing he loved Mayte be4 he met her.

*On Darren's first soloalbum (coming out in March) he has a song called Insatiable, and another one Strange Relationship (not covers though)

*Savage Garden have also done covers of the songs One of us and I can't make you love me

PS: check out their song I'll bet he was cool, very Princely smile

Yeah, Savage Garden is really cool. I like how they're low-key and still have nice songs. You just don't hear about them too much, they're not in your face like that. I'd prefer them anytime over n'sync and whatever happened to the backstreet boys...

I saw Savage Garden live in Sydney Australia in 2000. I didn't really want to go but bought the tickets for my wife was a really big fan. I had previously bought their 2 CD's for her. I listened to them and liked them without going overboard. However they were great in concert. basically Darren Hayes is the front man. He writes the songs and the other guy- Daniel completes the music. I have not been impressed with any other concert beside Prince (who is still on another level).
Anyway with being busy and whatever, I didnt listen to them for about a year, then late last year I bought a new car with a CD player and took their Affirmation CD to listen to and I was completely awestruck. I kept wanting to use the skip button on my new toy but couldnt bring myself to miss any of the songs. Even songs I previously couldn't bear to listen to were great. I must rate this as possibly the best CD of the last 10 years. Anyway Savage Garden have called it quits and Darren will be going solo which basically means, more of the same as Daniel didn't really enjoy the attention. I'm running out of time, next time I'll tell about some other great Aussie bands unless some of you are Aussies. Are you?
What makes Darren a cut above everyone bar Prince is his ability to spill his true feelings into his lyrics and you are actually able to feel his joy and pain. Like Prince he is an emotional guy. The first CD was all about finding love and the second was about losing love, written after his separation from his wife and is one of the most personal Cd's you will listen to. There is a song on there obviously written about his ex-wife called 'I dont know you anymore' which is as heart wrenching as Princes 'I love you, but dont trust you anymore'
Being a lyric person first and foremost Darren Hayes fulfils my need for intellectual, compassionate, honest and emotional songwriting. I urge all true lyric lovers to listen. I have heard his Insatiable-not only has he used the title but also uses the 'Drink every drop' line.

I absolutly adore Darren Hayes' voice. When I first heard Savage Garden in 1997 I hated it! I got into INXS pretty heavily in late 1997 and it somehow brought me to appreciate Savage Garden too. In late 1998 I bought their first CD and I decided I did like them as originally I thought they were just a "Cheesy Teen Pop" group. Their music is "clean" which is part of the reason why kids and teenagers grasped it and many people older than that disregaurded them. Sort of reminds me of "The Simpsons" which I loved as a kid and I still do at 22. Darren Hayes is a true writer with a beautiful voice and quite the comedian and should also be an actor! I have the Superstars and Cannonballs Live video which came out after I saw them twice on their Affirmation tour, I absolutly loved them live! What a great show! They used the same lighting designer on their Affirmation Tour as U2 did on their ZooTV and Popmart Tours. In an interview with Savage Garden on the DVD they mention that Prince is a big influence as well as U2, INXS, Peter Gabriel and Madonna. I have a boot song of Savage Garden doing "One of Us" where he says "This is a song that Joan Osborne did and Prince did a version more recently" I was a member of the fan club but not until just after the last tour, and was truly disappointed when I found out they broke up. I have heard a few songs from the new Darren Hayes album and am no longer disappointed. His music is brilliant! Anyway, enough rambling for me! smile

Yeah I think SG were awful and cheesey pop too.

But I don't wish to sully this thread with negativity, so I won't say...
