yeah right madonna changed pop music like i changed my undies after a bad case of diariah
if she changed the face of pop music what the hell did mj and prince did well they musta invented pop music then

so, only one or two people can alter music? wait a minute, if the beatles changed music i guess every one else just did a big bunch of nothing, eh? just because i think madonna changed how we see and accept women in music does not mean mj or prince or the beatles or elvis or whoever didn't make their own mark.

madonna was the first woman to blatantly explore sexuality in music. she made it okay for women, in maintsteam music, to sing about whatever they wanted. she became the most powerful woman in the history of music. she pushed boundaries for video and other media and now most artists can do whatever they want. whether or not things have gone too far now is a different thread but to look at the music world and miss madonna's influence on it is crazy.

i thought it was Annie Lennox, or Grace Jones, or Cindi Lauper, for that matter.... shrug

mj and prince made the biggest mark but u made no mention of them anyone reading your article would think madonna was the main influence of pop music ok
u say she changed how we see woman well u got that right i mean from her sex book erotica album yeah she really changed how we see woman she brought porn into the mainstream what a great example

yeah ok but in terms of talent how does she stack up with other woman u know talentwise i probably wouldnt put her in the top 10 of female musical artists
i mean theres been virtually no press about her last album completely bombing and i agree with the starter of this thread shes definetly overated

i think she went a little bit crazy with it, yeah. but erotica, justify my love and many others pushed some boundaries. the fact is, up until that point...in mainstream music...only men were acceptable as sexual beings. or, rather, women were only seen as sexual when they were the subject of a man's desire. madonna let everyone know that she was in control of her sexuality.

well, i'd have to say, considering that most of the world can't name one grace jones record or song and, while i grew up with her, all my friends and i ever did was laugh at her...i'd say not terribly influencial. did annie lennox push sex? i have eurythmics stuff and her solo stuff, i've never really heard her singing about sex...at least not the way madonna peddled it. and cyndi...ah, cyndi...i liked her more than madonna. but other than she-bop, i can't think of anything that pushed any envelopes. i guess in their own way maybe they made some dents but nothing in comparison to the influence madonna has had on the music world. when was the last time a current performer said "well, i was most influenced by grace jones" or "i want to be as daring as cyndi lauper"?

You won't have heard Kate Bush's first album (1978), then. And I would imagine there was even somebody before her. wink

uh oh, that was me that said that, not riverdean...he was just quoting me. i should make it clear that i know other women have been sexually vocal...i'd be naive to think otherwise. i just don't think anyone threw it in your face like men did until madonna.

I'm not really a fan, but to say she's talentless dosent make any since at all.
And shock value only lasts so long.Marilyn Manson's a perfect example of that.
Madonna can do alot of things and do them well.Overrated, not even.
She's taken plenty of shots over the years reguarding her work.
Wanna talk about the most overrated artist's ever? The Beatles are by
far the kings of that label.
