1)MJ never told media to call him King! Are you mad? Media does every single thing to make MJ look bad!

2) It was 1988 not right before Dangerous was released(1991). when Liz Taylor called MJ on stage in an award show she refferef to him as:
"I think he is the king of pop, rock and soul" something like that...so fans took it and it was all over the place

Well, I didn't know about the Liz Taylor thing, but that certainly makes sense. Thanks for shedding light on the actual origin of the term. However, it is a fact that Michael's people basically strong-armed the media around 91, 92 so that they would refer to him as the King of Pop. Haven't you ever seen him referred to as the "self-proclaimed King of Pop"? Trust me, I'm mad, but I'm not wrong about this.

I wish I remembered the details, but it was a long time ago and i was only 16 or so. I do remember reading an article where it was revealed that MJ's people told MTV that they wouldn't submit the videos from Dangerous to them (or maybe it was that they wouldn't give them the premiere...that used to be such a huge deal) unless they immediately started referring to him as the King of Pop.

Fact.
No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Blame MJ's PR people and Marketing people
its a PR Job
he doesn't actually take the term seriously
Journalist who know about this don't refer to him as the Self Proclaimed king of pop
a More popular term Is SelfStyled
but Jackson Never Proclaimed himself Anything that was liz taylor

blueangel its common knowledge for even non mj fans invincible wasnt promoted im not sure where u live but here there were no posters the fact that there was no tour only 2 videos shows there wasnt any history had over 6 videos the same for dangerous and bad it was gonna be business as usual with invincible with over a half dozen videos and a tour if you live in the usa u know about the butterflies fiasco it was something live 23 or something in the charts everyone was waiting for the single release and video but nothing michael had all these ideas for short films but mottola pulled the plug u obviously dont know all the back n forth infighting with mj and mottola the sony atv catralogue etc.. im not even gonna get into it

and about mj being the king of pop dont you think hes earned that title recently u have justin timberlake on rolling stone referred to as the new king of pop has he earned this title i dont think so and u know his pr people had something to do with that title just like u said it happened with mjs people u can see now it happens to other artists to its not a isolated thing
is it because michael has a title and prince doesnt how bout i start one
how about the midget of pop how bout that kinda catchy dont ya think
