I Passed Billie Holiday's Grave 2day! After visiting a cousin in the Bronx(who lives not far from Billie's grave site) we went out to walk and at some point we passed her grave once (not knowing it was there) while visiting my uncle's grave. It was such a weird yet profoundly moving experience. This is a woman who's life and music I studied. I would hear stories from my great grandma about her(when she was young, she used to scrub the floor in front of her apartment) and be totally enthralled by their wonderful stories of this beautiful woman. So you could imagine my surprise to walk past her grave and her mother's grave(beside). I prayed and asked god to rest her soul.

I hear you. The other day I realized that I was walking past the Essex House Hotel here in New York City. That's where Donny Hathaway died. I had to stop and say a little prayer to pay my respects. Spirits like Billie, Sarah Vaughn, Marvin and all the greats deserve it. Peace
