Update on Jamiroquai: New CD due in September

I know there are a few other Jamiroquai fans on this site,so I thought I would start a thread about their upcoming CD.Just wanted to share some recent news and updates I've heard...

***According to a Sony record exec, the CD will likely be released in September or October. The first single could be released as early as June.

***Songs recorded for the new album include...

"Cannabliss"
"Shoot The Moon"
"A Funk Odyssey" ---obviously,this is an outtake from their last album, which was also titled 'A Funk Odyssey'.
"Black Devil Wife"
"Hollywood Swinging" ---this is a remake of the 1974 Kool and The Gang hit and it was recorded for an upcoming Kool and The Gang covers album (due on May 10th,by the way). But it's likely to appear on the new Jamiroquai album too.

*** The Neptunes have been asked to remix the first single, and possibly some other tracks on the album.

clapping Am I the only one who can't wait for this CD? I'm STILL playing 'A Funk Odyssey' all the time lol

Just a question...

When Jamiroquai bring out a new album, how do you tell the difference between it and any one of their previous albums?

All their songs sound identical. They may as well just re-release their first album and claim that it's all new material - nobody would be able to tell otherwise.

Just my 2 (billion) cents worth.

Jamiroquai's first 2 CDs were great, 2 of the better LPs in recent memory. Their 3d was good, their 4th decent. The 5th was mediocre by their standards. But I will always be 1st in line to support The J because they make enjoyable if not always durable music.

I am looking 4ward 2 September.

That's interesting, because I've always been of the opinion that they only got better with each album. I thought A Funk Odyssey was easily their best, and one of the best albums of 2001.

It really is a matter of taste. I can't argue with you on "Funk Odyssey," because it's a good LP overall. I just think "Return of the Space Cowboy" is their best, with "Emergency on Planet Earth" a close second.

But it's good to know that The J has a good contingent of support here! thumbs up!

THAT would be cool!! I have a live cd of theirs and he kicks ass. I really mis his licks on the band's later albums. I love the live version of Hollywood Swinging.

Actually, their albums do NOT all sound alike, which is why many of their longtime fans constantly complain. These fans miss the sound of the first two albums, which focused on long, meandering jams that were more in the "acid jazz" genre.Their most recent album 'A Funk Odyssey' doesn't sound anything like those early albums. They've added electronica elements to their sound and tracks like"Twenty Zero One","Feels Good", and "Stop Don't Panic" don't sound like anything they had done previously.

Although most Jamiroquai fans seems to prefer their early work,I consider 'A Funk Odyssey' to be their best album. It's probably the best album I have heard in this decade so far.Jay Kay has become an excellent songwriter and songs like "Corner Of The Earth" and "Picture Of My Life" are incredible,well-written gems.In addition, these guys have mastered the art of creating outstanding dance tracks (something that was lacking from the first few albums).I've always said that "Love Foolosophy" is the type of killer dance jam that Michael Jackson,Prince or George Michael could use right now.

Thanks David

Great news, wonder what the new "funk odyssey" song sounds like ?
