Any Todd Rundgren Fans?

Todd has a pretty wide-ranging repertoire...any fans of the "Runt" out there?

Damnit paligap.
Here I was ready to shut the pc down and go home, and now you've set the table with one of your tasty musical threads...again. (plus i'm partial to your handle) cool

So let's take it all the way back to Nazz.
The Beatlesque cover. The catchy pop tunes.
(Open My Eyes and the original Hello It's Me)
One of the records has the Paul Revere and the Raiders tune Kicks on it.
(not sure if that's a TR penned tuned)

Move on to the fabulous Utopia period. And of course the solo records.
I got to catch the Utopia tour that featured the pyramid, motorbike drums and ice guitar.

If i'm not mistaken, Mr. Rundgren was one of the first name artists to market his material via website. He had a deal where his fan base would contribute X amount of dollars to finance the album. They'd get regular progress reports and when the record was finished they'd get a copy.

That's it. I'm goin' home. wave

Paligap -- Most definitely! Check out his brand new album, "Liars." There's a note-perfect Prince-like song called "Flaw" on the album (at least old school Prince), and there's a lyrical mate to "Musicology" on it called "Soul Brother."

Yes I probably listen to Todd as much as I do Prince. Alot of Prince's career mirrors Todds. He played all of the instruments on his records, produced too many hit records to name, for others and released his music via his own website long before others. Also his "ankh" shaped guitar is almost a precursor to "habibi". Another thing is on the Utopia album "Ra" (concept album) there was this narrative throughtout side 2 like on "The Rainbow Children". I love all of his 70's solo stuff. A Wizard A True Star"!!!!!

Yeah, The similarities are fascinating...and that late70's-early 80's ankh guitar....Well Prince's symbol/ Habibi guitar has more than a passing resemblance which makes me wonder how long Prince has been checking out Rundgren...

I've always liked it, But I like the Isley Bros. version better than the original...I wonder how Todd feels about their version...I know that Marvin Gaye really loved James Taylor's version of How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You, and he really liked James's singing...but I always wonder how the original artist feels about other people putting a different spin on their music...

LOVE 'Can We Still Be Friends?' and the 'No World Order' album is cool too: I liked the idea behind it, I pull it out occasionally and fire it up.

Yeah, I'd say I admire TR-i...
thumbs up!

Yeah, I go back that far.
That Nazz album was purchased without having heard it simply because the cover was similar to the Meet The Beatles album cover. Lucky for me the tunes were good.

And yes, "Hendrix was the M***F##kin' MAN!" highfive
