Qtip's "Kamaal the Abstract"

Did anyone else get to hear this album? I thought it was slammin, a jazz/fusion funk/ rock/ hip- hop throwdown,, but Arista declined to release it. LA Reid claimed he loved it, but apparently thought it was too "expirimental", kept pushing the release date back, and finally they finally left it in limbo. I know Qtip's over at Dreamworks now with a new, different album and working on the Tribe thing, but I wonder if it "Abstract" will ever be officialy released...

Arista's attitude really confused me, especially when other labels released albums like Common's " Electric Circus" and OutKast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" to critical acclaim...

also I just read a review in the UK magazine MOJO of Q tips new album Stop.

only i can't find any other information regarding release dates etc anywhere on the internet. Does anyone know anything about it, what label it's on...

The magazine gave it good write up: 4* out of 5.

Haven't heard Kamaal the Abstract though I'll now try to seek it out. is it easy to get hold of?

It seemed to be easier to find at the end of '02 and most of '03 but I don't see it as much now...it pops up occasionally on ebay, but what I see more often is the 4-track EP that has two tracks from the album and two instrumental versions of those tracks...

Arista's definitely not going to release it...someone recently said that Tip was trying to get the rights to release it himself....

Great album indeed! clapping

From my understanding it was also an issue because Tip wanted to put the album up under the name Kamaal and not Q-Tip and L.A. wasn't trying to hear that.

Nevertheless, his next solo effort (that's in the works with Dreamworks) is supposed to be in the same line as Kamaal: The Abstract and features a track with none other than Andre 3000 (one of Tip's admirers) wink

is this the Stop album that I read about or something else? there was no mention of andre in the review I read... obviously they can't include every detail though.

I'm not sure. everything I had read about the new album said it was going to be called "Open"...they also said it was supposed to come out in February, then, in March...nothing so far (and you're right, not much about it on the web, either)

Right! From my understanding, it's still entitled "Open" and I'm not sure if the track with Andre has been recorded or not, but it was mentioned that he would make a guest apperance on the album.
