I have known Dolly was the best since I was old enough to speak, but I guess the US has decided to make it official!

Like we needed the federal government to make it official: Dolly Parton is a living legend. The 58-year-old country icon will be awarded official ''Living Legend'' status on Wednesday by the Library of Congress. She'll receive the citation at a Washington, D.C., ceremony, where she'll also perform for a TV special that will air in may on cable's Great American Country channel. She follows in the path of such Library of Congress-designated Living Legends as the late Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, and baseball iron man Cal Ripken Jr. Parton fans who can't wait until the May telecast can see her next Wednesday as the host of Country Music Television's Flameworthy Awards.

I've never really listened to her music, but from seeing interviews and television programmes about her, she seems like the sweetest, coolest lady on the planet

and from what I have heard of her music, it wasn't really my thing, but I respect her values and craft as an artist

"Jolene" is the dopest.

Dolly is a FABULOUS songwriter. Unfortunately, in the late '70s and '80s the media and people in the mainstream allowed her breasts to overshadow EVERYTHING about her music. I even dig her cover of Collective Soul's "Shine" from 2001.

Well, Dolly kinda helped in this. She knows her boobs are a "big part" of her fame. I love when she pokes fun about that. What I love more is that her talent is so much bigger that she was able to sustain this life-long career rather than fading into total obscurity after a few songs....

SOME Old School country music. The only new(er) country music artists I like is some of the Judds music, and Wynona Judd solo. I have yet to actually buy any country music though...I need to correct that. Most people of my generation don't realize that it has a lot in common with old r&b.

i'm celebrating 25 yrs. of dolly
i don't remember now what it was about dolly that got to this boy at the age of five but, i remember loving her through the 80's and then at 16, when i started driving, she released Eagle When She Flies...loved that album. i'm also glad i knew dolly at that time and knew her original version of i'll always love you. i continued to like dolly thru the 90's but, only had some greatest hits compilations and a few 80's/90's albums. then, in 2001, i was in a record store and saw her cd for little sparrow. i listened to it on a listening station and was blown away. i bought it then and there. some friends got a hold of the album and i didn't have it for a while and since dolly is so prolific she had released halos & horns by the time i got my cd back. i wondered about it and then my manager at work played me her version of stairway to heaven, i loved it. something about it. i like the original too don't get me wrong but, it has a passion behind it, kinda like prince doing one of us. i actually like to listen to those songs together. i went ahead and got hungry again and the grass is blue her albums from 98 and 99. those 4 cd's, from 98 to 02 are just amazing. they are just so tight. the songwriting and song choices along with her voice just flow. i was so glad to have this music. it touched something in me. i'm a small town kentucky boy and i'm a livin in the big city now and i thank dolly for helping me connect back to myself. Ralph Emery wrote back in 1993, " i don't think i have ever met any entertainer with more drive, talent and effervescence than Dolly Parton." Dolly Parton is an American Treasure. Not many artists can sustain such wealth. It's reassuring and refreshing to have this living legend loom. she continues to grow as an artist and is just genuine in so many aspects. shine on dolly, shine on.

MUCH KUDOS TO DOLLY

She truly is a legend and has written as many or maybe even more songs than Prince. On her recent appearance on Oprah she said she'd written over 3000 songs! Got DAYUM thats alot!

So earnest, heartfelt and even campy at times. Dolly contiunes to shine on!
