The Whitney Houston Appreciation Thread.

Don't know if it has been done already but even if it has, I really have to give it up to Whitney Houston. Aside from her personal life and problems, she is a truly wonderful singer. I was bumpin' her greatest hits in the car this morning and when she does her thing, there isn't a singer today that can touch her. I respect that she has always kept her clothes on and let her voice sell the records.

I pray that God sees her through.

Whitney's one of my top 5 voices definitely, although I think she over-does it a bit sometimes. It sounds a little sterile and detached. I still think Donna Summer has an overall better voice though, primarily because she sounds like she feels like she's singing. I hope Whitney releases at least one more killer album, but I don't think that's going to happen sad

Her Grammy performance, I think in 1992, where she performed a medley of songs from the Bodyguard soundtrack (including a snippet of Dreamgirls' "And I'm Telling You") left me and my choir friends awestruck for days. Whitney was the bomb back then, before the smoking and drugging began to affect her voice.

That night, she was in top form.

As a fan of newjack, I liked "My name is not susan", that track is way funky with good vocals! "All the man i need" is a good song too! "My name is not susan" was released as a single (i swear I remember the vid when it first dropped) but i don't think that song was a big hit though, which is a shame really as that song rolls way funky! I was surprised when i first heard how good that song was! "....GeGeGeGeGeGeGeget it right!"

see, i'm mad at that! bobby needs to get a grip. i really do hope whitney makes it through all this mess and releases a kick ass record. then i hope she leaves that loser of a man and gets herself someone successful and fine, someone who treats her like the woman she deserves to be.

lol All her personal bullshit and her inane comments aside, she still blows all the current roster of female 'singers' away. And I'm being generous calling them singers.

i think that may be true...i keep hoping that she cleans up and takes care of her voice so that she can sing well again. i know if its just nodules, she can get surgery to have that taken care of. stevie nicks had to do that in the mid 80's. the sad thing is, even with her busted voice of today she is still a better singer than most of these kids in the game today.

stevie nicks lost her upper register b/c she was so coked out in the mid 80s all she did was scream the words to her songs on her ROCK A LITTLE tour...oh man it breaks my heart to hear some of the live shows from that tour...

I must admit that I hated Whitney until she released her "Greatest Hits" album with the remixes of the "Your Love" songs among others and I kind of got hooked. Very good singer with very good songs. The last album had a few highlights but overall needed more. Too bad for all the recent shit, ya know. She has to get it together.
