Props 4 Randy Crawford! She NEVER gets the love she deserves. This post is therefore dedicated to one of the smoothest, coolest and soulful vocalists of our time.
I picked up her "Greatest Hits" CD this weekend - its the first CD of hers I've bought, and I had forgotten how much I loved her voice. She was another WB Records discard. Never promoted the way she should have been. She put out some exceptional music. Her vocals on "Street Life" alone deserve her top R&B singer status. Remember how much you loved hearing that song back in the day. But she had so many more fine moments. "Cajun Moon" so smooth and soulful it is scary. "Last Night At Danceland" classic 80's r&b. Her version of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is incredible. As is her duet on "Your Precious Love", with Al Jarreau. There is a great mix of her version of George Benson's "Give Me The Night" on the GH CD. Real "after-hours" style mix. Not to mention her rendition of "Purple Rain", while I'm not really that INTO her version, least she didn't try to sound like Lil'Man. Somebody else out there has to love her - how about some more props for this bad sista!

Agreed - that voice has always given me tingles. My favourite is "I've Never Been To Me". And is there anyone who can't chill out to "One Day I'll Fly Away"???

Street Life is just one of my favorite songs period. Her version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door is a classic. But you know how it goes, Harle, maybe she oughta show some skin so she can blow up.

When I was a kid I used to think that was Chaka Khan singing that. I can't recall knowing anything about Crawford. I'm sure I've heard some of her material, but I can't think of anyhthing off the top of my head. ` [This message was edited Thu Apr 15 21:22:10 2004 by Supernova] This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Her version of "Purple Rain" is probably the best cover version of this song that I've heard.

I might be wrong but I think she's getting more props over here in Europe than she does in the states, she's pretty well known all around here really.
Anyway, I Love Randy! I have all of her 80's albums and a few others, including Naked & True (1995) where she does all this cover versions of R&B classics (incl. Purple Rain) most of them rather good really, my fave though is her rendition of "Forget me nots" I haven't heared her last release "Permanent" from 2001, any recommendations? is it worth checking out? Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

I love Cajun Moon. She has such a wonderful, emotional voice. Her greatest cd is excellent. _________________________________________
