Rolling Stone Immortals List

Does anybody think it's a disgrace that Kurt Cobain placed higher on the list than Prince, Michael Jackson, and Madonna?

Don't get me wrong, Kurt had a great start and had lots of potential but putting a stoner with 2 albums over LEGENDS who have made some of the most timeless songs and who have had longer careers with proven track records is a disgrace.

May I also add that Kurt has a good emotional voice but zero vocal versatility, his voice cracks in some of his songs. MJ, Prince, and Madonna have crystal clear voices and the ability to sing a more diverse set of songs than Kurt ever could...

Yes, yes and yes. I believe Nirvana to be one of the most overrated bands in the past 20 years. Everything they did had been done before (fuck the system? depressed? alienated? wow, such nouveau concepts there!). They rode the grunge wave but where is grunge today? Prince, MJ and Madonna have had incredible influence on today's pop music.

Madonna ain't a great singer but she can be very good when she wants to (Ray Of Light).

Another hilarious thing: U2 comes in AHEAD of Prince. WTF?????

Consider the source of the list, and what that publication has become in the last dozen years. At least.

the list was faulty to begin with-where's jackie wilson...t-bone walker..
etta james...ruth brown...the clovers...i'm a beatles fan but how fdoes john rank on the list and paul deosn't? sorry rolling stone guys but paul WAS and is
the better singer..better musician (john admitted these two facts himself)
and if these guys didn't know george and paul taught john the correct way to play guitar...he wrote great lyrics...but so did paul ...john's immortal but so is paul....no offense but madonna ain't an immortal.

popularity isn't the only barometer.
carl perkins? (one hell of a guitar player, right?)
kurt c was good but he's no immortal.
george clinton?
solomon burke?
lavern baker? (madonna can't carry her purse as a singer)
the flamingos?
booker t and the mg's?
isleys?

i rest my case.
the rolling stone judges can't even pick SQUAT.

I strongly agree...I'm tired of hearing how Kurt spoke for a displaced generation, blah..blah..blah....Can u tell me how a song named after deodarant..(Smells Like Teen Spirit)put words in the mouth of a voiceless society...don't forget the catchy little ditty "Rape Me"...yup, ol' Kurt really spoke volumes. Please save any posts lettin' me know jus' how outta touch I am wit' Kurt an' his lyrics...I actually enjoy Nirvana and their music..but if people wanna keep crammin' it down my throat jus' how profound this man supposedly was..I'm jus' gonna have to tell 'em to kiss a fat babys ass...

Totally.

To be honest, I ain't mad with Rolling Stone's List. Of course, I'd switch Nirvana's and Prince's places on that list, but the list exist to have people talking. My problem with the list is one blaring omission, that being MILES DAVIS was nowhere to be found!!!

That whole list if F'd up. How the hell are they gonna put Dylan and the Beatles ahead of Elvis? Especially Dylan.

As someone already said though, that mag has zero credability today.

The first time I met her was when I flew to visit her at one of her shows in 2001. I walked into her dressing room, and her daughter, Lola, was there, and I felt really nervous. I said to Madonna, "Can I just hug you?" (1)I was so stupid! But she was so nice about it. (2)I would definitely not be here, doing what I'm doing, if it wasn't for Madonna. I remember being eight or nine years old, running around my living room singing and dancing and wanting so much to be like her. All my girlfriends still listen to her stuff. We're all mesmerized by her. (3)Madonna's stage presence has inspired so many artists -- you can see her influence in some of the younger generation like Kelly Clarkson and Shakira, who have picked up some of her moves.

As part of the generation that's coming up, you look at Madonna and you don't want to let her down. That's such a motivation for me. (4)I love doing what I do, but when Madonna comes around -- like when we were making the video for "Me Against the Music" -- it's like, "Everybody get your act together -- the godmother is here."

(1) Nothing's changed, Britney.

(2) You owe it all to

(3) Kelly Clarkson has moves? And Shakira can shake her ass well, but that's about it. Maybe she took her cue from J. Lo. Also, that Britney believes these women have "moves" explains the atrocious dancing that dominates the Onyx Hotel Tour.

(4) When Britney comes around: "Everybody get the mime track, the hair extensions and a bottle of scotch! The no-talent dumbass is here!"

Her commentary reads like an elementary school essay. It really does show where Britney is coming from though. She really thinks this is all about "moves" and hairstyles. She has no concept of music, except that other people write it for her. I could write a better essay about Madonna and her impact and why she would be immortal. (Better yet, you, DavidEye, Chico319, etc.)
