MJ is a great songwriter, but his output's so low that I don't think he's a reasonable consideration for the Top 20, which is what was asked for.

MJ is a great songwriter, but his output's so low that I don't think he's a reasonable consideration for the Top 20, which is what was asked for. In the Billboard book of No1's, he's in the top 15 songwriters who've penned no1's. He's definately written more than a few, The majority of his best songs infact. Besides, even if he only ever wrote Billie Jean, he still get's in! 'nuffsaid!

To give you an idea, MARIAH CAREY ranks above MJ on that list. So does Madonna. Diane Warren isn't too far behind. P. Diddy is closing in. Jon Bon Jovi even makes the top 30. I think Michael Jackson has written some truly classic material but I still don't think he's one of the top 20 of all time. Has anyone mentioned Phil Spector yet? There are many excellent songwriters, but the master is Bob Dylan!! No one can write like Bob. His songs are full of so many differnet emotions and passion!
Bob is #2 on the Immortals list because he deserves it! Rolling Stone sucks as a mag, but it's nice to see they at least got this list correct for a change.
