Great list....that pretty much sums it up. I'd add Joni Mitchell, Jobim and Sting believe it or not. And for the jazz heads: Gil Evans, Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays and Miles Davis

Where's Bob Dylan? And not enough girls!! Bjork, Stevie Nicks and Ms Bush should be on there, too. And no Barry Gibb or John/Taupin, either. Hell! Where's all the old gang who wrote for Marvin Gaye? Hell! Where's Marvin Gaye? disbelief Thom Yorke should also get a mention. And no MJ! Let's not be churlish, eh?!

Good question. I forgot all about Elton John/Taupin. I happen to be a Kate Bush fan as well...don't know if I'd include her on the list...which ...there are really too many to list. Not to discount MJ but Rod Temperton and Quincy Jones actually wrote a bunch of stuff for him. There's too many people to list...we'd be here all day and night. biggrin

My favourites are (not in order):

Michael Jackson
Prince
Stevie Wonder
Paul McCartney
John Lennon
Neil Young

After that it's hard to say...wel,, Toto's David Paich is great too. And Elton John is good...Bob Dylan...well, he's not SO good to me, his music is not REALLY good to me...you know, lot's of nice songs but no GREAT songs like these guys here. Well, those 6 up there are the best (for me).

It actually irks me that she's not included on these lists more often (not by orgers but by so called music critics). Considering some of the topics she sings about I think she's deserving of far more props than she's usually given.

Quincy didn't write for Michael's albums other than P.Y.T. on Thriller.

And Michael wrote a lot of stuff himself. wink

Hobzie

Michael Jackson has written roughly 50% of the songs he has released in his solo albums. And almost all the best songs are his (Dosn't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Billie Jean, Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Black Or White, Earth Song etc etc...).

He has also written some songs for The Jacksons (ALL the best songs, I mean Jacksons, not Jackson 5). And he wrote "We Are The World", with Lionel Richie's help though. I just wish he released more material and more of his own stuff. He has the talent.

Kate Bush is better than people think. As you and I know already....Maxwell covered her "This Woman's Work". No disrespect to him but folks went crazy over that song and I was like..."uh...that song was written by Kate Bush and I actually like her version better." Of course the response i got was..."who?"
