***A year or so ago,Chante Moore released a duet album with her husband Kenny Lattimore.I think she also had a baby.No word on when her next solo album is due (I was disappointed with her last couple of albums).

***Donna Summer is always promising that she will have a new CD out soon, but at this point,I doubt that she ever will. It's likely that she has quietly retired, and will only release the occasional new song or two on hits compilations (her recent compilation 'The Journey' contains three new tracks).

***Eric Benet is another artist who is supposedly "working on a new album" but yet it never seems to materialize.

***Lauryn Hill is also working on new music, but at this point,it's anyone's guess as to when it will be released. She seems to be going through alot of personal drama these days.

Isn't it a shame the way it takes forever just to get a new album from our favorite artists? Back when I was growing up,artists released new albums every 8 months or so.

Maxwell-heard he's gone nuts and is in therapy...again.
Donna Summer- shrug
Chante Moore- shrug
India Arie-she just performed in ATL a few months ago, so I'm sure she's probably in the studio.
Eric Benet-somewhere either wall or duh for breaking up with Halle Berry
Lisa Stansfield- shrug
D'angelo-in the studio with Raphael Saadiq working on his next album. Supposedly, there are only guitars (D'Angelo/Saadiq) and bass (Saadiq) laid down with no keys. Sounds interesting to me. hmmm
Lauryn Hill-see the answer for Maxwell minus the "and is in therapy...again" part
Suzanne Vega- shrug
Tina Arena- shrug

Hope this helped! thumbs up!

Lisa Stanisfeild released a greatest hits last year (it was even released in America!).

Donna actually made an album for Sony that was meant to be released anywhere between 2000-2002 but she got dropped. "You're So Beautiful" was one of the songs on the album and another was on "Sex and the City" but it was never released and won't be on the most recent soundtrack. So it’s not that Donna is lazy or anything but she has been disappointed by major labels before. Something tells me she might have to high of hopes for Univerisal since she was hinting they would release “the new album” but it could happen since the greatest hits collection sold pretty well dispite the no real new video and not that much of a push for the album (she pushed the book in interviews and the album as an after thought and only performed on “Sharon” I think). Well just have to wait and see what happens with Donna.

Lisa Stansfield is working on a her next release..No confirmed release date just yet....She releases an album every few years and sells well everywhere except for the US..(which sucks big donkey dick)...

India just released an album last year, no?

Suzanne Vega recently released an album too.....

I think alot of artist are now finding their lil niches and getting by with a realistic level of successs.....To think that St. Paul recently released albums is mindblowing to me.....And to think the nonexistent Jill Jones was able to release an album 15 odd years after her flopped debut...
Space for sale...

In 1999,Donna signed a record deal with Sony Records. She released a live album 'Live And More Encore' which included three new songs. She then began work on a new studio album, completing 30 tracks between 1999-2002.But she was dropped from Sony last year and the album, titled 'Angel' was never released and remains in the vault. Here's the tentative tracklist...

Donna Summer 'Angel'

"You're So Beautiful"
"Angel"
"Work It"
"I Got Your Love"
"Rain On My Shoulders"
"Not A Day"
"Valley Of The Moon"
"Til You Get It"
"Tearin' Down The Berlin Wall"
"Half The Battle"
"Only Words"

Since then, she has been constantly talking about a new album, and how she is always "looking" for a new record deal. But at this point,I don't think it's gonna happen.Donna simply doesn't like the way the music business operates (remember her problems with Casablanca in 1980 and her rocky period at Geffen Records in the 80s?),and she has had tremendous problems developing a friendly, productive relationship with any record label since leaving Casablanca. From this point on,I think we'll see the occasional new song tacked onto the end of yet another greatest hits compilation, and she may play select concert dates now and then. But I've given up hope that we will ever get a new,full-length Donna Summer album.Music is no longer a priority for her and I don't think she's interested in trying yet another comeback attempt.I guess we should just hope for more remastering of her excellent catalog.

True, but I think it's absurd that it takes five years or more for a new album to come out these days.

Maxwell - Bipolar
Donna Summer - Can't get a record deal. Endless streams of GH collections but no new album in sight. Will probably restrict herself to live performances.
Chante Moore - No clue.
India Arie - I'm pretty sure she's working on a new album.
Eric Benet - Fucking around on Halle Berry.
Lisa Stansfield - I WISH she had an album in the works but I haven't heard anything. "Face Up" performed poorly in the UK and Europe so I'm not sure what to expect. But BMG did issue the fantastic "The Collection" last year (all albums remastered with bonus tracks plus a bonus disc) as well as the Swing soundtrack.
D'angelo - No clue.
Lauryn Hill - See also: Maxwell
Suzanne Vega - No clue.
Tina Arena - No clue

Yes nod

It's sad really, because Donna is extremely talented and she really deserves a second chance. If Cher can come out of nowhere and have a huge comeback with a hot dance hit ("Believe"),surely Donna can do the same. But she's got to want to do it,and based on recent comments she's made,I just don't feel that she wants to go through all the trouble.

That is very dissapoiting to hear even if it is true since she really seemed confident in releasing a new album this year. I would suggest she goes indie. It might work for her. At this rate, the anticipation of the people waiting for this album will make it a decen indie seller.

I think she wanted it with "I Will Go With You" and possibly "Love is the Healer" but I'm not sure that Sony did (that video was awful). Maybe you're right about her not wanting it since "You're So Beautiful" is a much better and more radio friendly song but did she ever really perform it on TV other than "Sharon"? She was very busy plugging that book, which didn't even talk about her music much and probably sold poorly (I can probably buy it for $5). Then again, if they would have sold "YSB" as a single, who knows what could have happened. Hell, they never commerically released the song in it's original form or at least with a reasonable timed mix (10+ mins it too damn long). Sadly, a missed opportunity.

What's even more disappointing is the fact that Donna actually has another recent album that probably won't ever get released either.Remember that "Ordinary Girl" stage musical she's been working on since the mid-90s? It's based on her life story, and was supposed to start in 1999 (she signed to Sony that year, and part of the deal was that they were gonna bankroll this project).Well, the soundtrack was recorded in 1995,but it's another project that's just collecting dust in the vaults...

Donna Summer "Ordinary Girl" Soundtrack

"No Ordinary Love Song"
"Rain Rain"
"Arms And Legs"
"Chairman Of The Board"

"This Forbidden Fruit"
"I Found A Star"
"My Dream Is For You"

In the summer of 1999,when Sony released "I Will Go With You",it's obvious that they were expecting a Cher-style comeback for Donna. The song did okay on the dance charts and in clubs, but it never became the major hit that Donna needed.I think Sony should have rush-released the superior "Love Is the Healer" as a follow-up single, with a kickass video this time, and much better promotion.Another missed opportunity which paved the way for Donna's departure from the label last year.

More recently,"You're So Beautiful" became a surprise hit,on the dance charts at least. And now "I Will Live For Love" is rapidly climbing the dance charts too! So,if nothing else,Donna still has alot of support from the dance music community.Wouldn't it be great if she could sign a new record deal,go into the studio with somebody like William Orbit, and record a stunning electronic/techno dance album? But like I said before,I don't think she wants to go through the trouble, which means no new album for us.

1995!!!!! Holy crap! I saw a VH1 special (probably BTM) where she recorded "My LIfe" but it had more of a modern dance beat. Very dissapointing that these projects never get picked up. I don't understand why those albums are just sitting and collecting dust? That really shocks me.

nod yeah,it's sad, isn't it? But like you said above,Donna could always release this music independently.Gloria Gaynor released a new CD last year, independently.Hell, even Donna's husband has his own independent label (Purple Heart Records) and he released a CD last year on his own website!!
