Re-Invention tour update: Siedah Garrett is Madonna's new backup singer Y'all remember Siedah Garret, right? She was Michael Jackson's duet partner on his 1987 hit "I Just Can't Stop Loving You",and she co-wrote the song "Man In The Mirror".She can also be heard on Dennis Edward's 1984 smash R&B hit "Don't Look Any Further".She's done a few albums of her own too,and has written songs and/or sang backup for numerous artists, including Donna Summer and Quincy Jones.
Well,an exclusive source reveals that she has just been hired as Madonna's backup singer for the upcoming 'Re-Invention' Tour. She will join Maddy's other longtime backup singer Donna Delory.Unfortunately, longtime backup vocalist Niki Harris will not be on board this time around, but Siedah is certainly a suitable replacement. btw, here's a little trivia for ya...in 1990,Madonna was adamant about hiring singer N'Dea Davenport as her backup singer for the 'Blond Ambition' tour.Davenport can be heard on some tracks on the 'I'm Breathless' album, and she was thrilled to be asked. But in the end,she decided to sing lead in the band Brand New Heavies, and had to reject Madonna's offer.Interestingly enough,Siedah became lead singer for Brand New Heavies when N'Dea departed for a solo career in the late 90s! can't wait for this tour to begin!! This is interesting! I will miss Nikki though. She's so closely associated with Madonna for me that it will be hard to imagine the tour without her. Also her fantastic "gospel" voice was a joy to listen to on song likes Like a Prayer. I am sure that Siedah can match her though.

I'm gonna miss Nikki too.I've heard several crazy rumors about why she wasn't asked to join this new tour. But trust me,you'll love Siedah. She's really talented and will be a great asset to this tour.

I never really understood why Siedah's career went the way it did. I remember a song she had out when she was working w/ Quincy - great voice, I guess she just wasn't appealing as an artist? Then when she joined the Heavies & that went nowhere... I'm just glad she's still around & using her instrument. Good for her

Good for her probably one too many stints as interchangeable backup singer/duet partner or producer puppet. i like her voice a lot, but even the times when she took the forefront, it was as someone else's project. BNH, Quincy, MJ, backup for various other artists, etc.

What am I missing here? I don't think Seidah's a great singer at all. She was an extremely poor choice for the Brand New Heavies. N'Deas shoes are nearly impossible to fill and IMO, Garrett brought very little to the band. I really did like the song "Sometimes" tho.
And I have given her solo stuff a chance and I'm just not feeling any of it. Is there something wrong with me?? I feel like I'm supposed to like her but her voice just doesn't do it for me.... I think she's better as a backup singer 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

And Yes, thank God N'Dea went with BNH cuz Brother Sister is one of the most perfect albums ever crafted. In my top 10 of all time favorite albums by any artist.... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Besides I am talking about natural rhythm, kind of like what Prince or Janet Jackson has, Madonna is stiff!!! Madonna's a classicly trained ballet/modern dancer her style of movement is going to be differnt than janet who focuses on hip hop and prince who just grooves. just like michael has his stacctco style of dancing which is very stiff. its not rhythm its just style. read any ealry interview of debbi mazar and she talks about how when seh and maddy walked into the clubs the floors parted for everyone to watch maddy... long before she was famous. and i believe VH-1's driven section has info on Madonna's dance carear which was the reason she moved to NY in the first place. and sideah's webpage is http://www.siedah.com/flash.html and check out how bitter niki is http://nikiharis.com/ You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

Good for her Yeah,I have always wondered why Siedah never became a huge artist. She's extremely talented, has a great voice, writes good songs and had the support of big, important people like Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. She had a few minor hits (remember her mid-80s jam "Do You Want It Right Now"?) but her biggest hits are the songs where she's duetting with another artist ("I Just Can't Stop Loving You" with MJ..."Don't Look Any Further" with Dennis Edwards). But,things are looking up for her. She's got a high-profile gig on one of the year's biggest tours and if you visit her official site,it seems that she's got some new music.Good for her!

Siedah was on the Wayne Brady show on Friday, performing her excellent version of "Man In The Mirror".It's more rock-sounding than Mike's pop-ish version. After her song,Wayne talked to her and mentioned that she will be on the Madonna tour.
