the nick and jessica variety show

ok. yeah. say whatever you want. i watched it.

and you know what else? i enjoyed it. now, i didn't watch the whole thing because i was switching back and forth between nick and jessica and vh1's most shocking moments. uh huh, good quality easter tv. anywho...nick and jessica have great chemistry and they really come off as a happy couple.

is this a weekly show or a one off?

let the teasing begin...

did you catch any of it? i have to admit it was MAD corny but i think that was the point. i don't know, i just think they are so...so...cute. its kind of refreshing. everybody's trying to be sexy or dirty or shocking or serious. they just want to have some innocent fun. or at least that's their schtick.

That show was a damn trainwreck and I have to admit that I watched it (hey, shut up, I was waiting for ALIAS to come on, OKAY???) and that I loved it despite itself.

Take one part "Waiting for Guffman" and one part "World Music Awards" (the trashiest televised awards show of the year - it even makes the Pornies look absolutely top drawer by comparison), add a dash of the Mandrell Sisters and a twig of TRL, et voila - THE NICK AND JESSICA VARIETY HOUR!!!

It was such self-parody, I couldn't take my eyes off it. Jessica Simpson is the most graceless performer I've ever seen, and I love it. Her faces when she sings...my god. And she dances like an epileptic horse. I want to like her because she's so horribly awkward yet still manages to exude really fun stage presence, but I feel terribly dirty for anything less than complete disdain. Hey, I'm a snob - that's how it goes.

Nick, once the novelty of his generic purty-boy looks wears off, has the charisma of zwieback and sadly depends on his boy-band melisma (a singing style that kinda sorta went out of style with frosty-tip bangs and see-through silk shirts, helleau) to carry him through creepy Vegas-style duets with people like Jewel and Babyface (who books the guests for this show - a dartboard?).

The highlight of the show for me was Jessica's nightmarish performance of "Take My Breath Away" - the way she was flailing and the way her face was contorting, I thought she had just opened the Ark of the Covenant and her face would be melted off before the first chorus. No such luck.

I'll be watching this again. It was the funniest thing I've seen on network television in a long time...for all the wrong reasons!!!

UNRELATED: By the way, ALIAS completely kicked my ass off the hinges tonight. It featured a goth nightclub in Berlin, a panic room (that's CRAZY!!!) and Jennifer Garner kicked a globe across the room while laying on her back, and managed to clock a dude in the head with it. HARDCORE. lol

I watched about 3 seconds of it before the Soprano's started.. I can't judge it cause i didn't see much, but the advertizements for it looked silly.. Reminds me of the Sonny and Cher show.

Sadly, Jessica probably doesn't even know who Stevie is even if she's heard a few Mac songs!

I didn't get to see it. My living room was taken over and I was trying to work on a paper too. Sounds like it was what it was supposed to be. A parody of "Sonny and Cher". Even promos said it was cheesy! I proabaly would have watched it if I had a chance. I'm sure if it got any ratings (and considering how they pushed it and the fact there was nothing really on last night if you didn't have cable, it probably did), it will be rerun.

Jessica's performance with Jewel.....oh my God!
When she sang her part, I thought that maybe it was supposed to be a comedic performance. But instead of the audience laughing, they were "whoo"-ing as though they were hearing something spectacular.
That's when I realized this was a serious performance.
That's also when the horror set in.

HA! Exactly...if you saw what I wrote above: "I thought it was great! But how much was jessica trying to sound like jewel last night? so confused at the sudden change in her singing style...and her singing faces are quite scary!!!"

It was like Jewel possessed her body for a few minutes and she just made some shit-ass funny faces trying to pronounce the words like Jewel does.

Mattell is proud to announce the launch of Corporate Slag Barbie. Sales in a slump? Ratings in the shitter? This blonde stunner will enhance your bottom line. Yes, folks, she'll do ANYTHING if it makes money for you (wink wink). From lame-ass treacly pop and corny dinner theater knock-offs to tiresome (yet always humorous) vocal gymnastics and the never-fails concept of "Reality Show", Corporate Slag Barbie is one all-American corn-fed white Christian dynamo.*

*Generic Football Stud Ken (pictured below) must be purchased with his bride. The two never go anywhere without each other. They're attached at the hip. Does he have any talent? Who knows? Who cares? (Face will be chiselled to your specifications).
