Jay - Z : The Purple Album ***

A little less adventerous than the infamous "Grey Album" but the beats are a little better, and there are some standouts that ARE better than the original. Most notibly is "Moment Of Clarity" using the "Do Me Baby" beat.
"Encore" touches with "Hot Thing" and works perfectly, although i wish he used a little bit more woth the :Hot Thing" beat because HT is SLAMMIN.

"Dirt Off Your Shoulder" uses a broken "When Doves Cry" feel 2 it and a snippet of Prince vocal, but it is kind of repetitive.

"Change Clothes" uses the Purple Rain guitar intro very nicely, flows 2gether with the added beat and horn sample works great. It gave the song a more mellow feel.
And "justify My Thug" uses "Controversy" respectively.
These beats are not loops going over and over, merely like keyboards in a background, they provide the basis of the song; but the beats are soley original. Something like Kanye and Just Blaze.
Some songs though were a little over done like "Public Service Announcement" where "Sign O The Times" was a little over-bearing and they added 2 much in2 it, so was "Allure" (Insatiable).

Overall it is a nice cleaner feeling album than "Grey Album". But what made "Grey Album" stand out is that it was raw and un-inhibited. The Purple Album eye guess u can say can be more radio-friendly and conservative.
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.
