It Is underrated, and I love "Weakness, It's You, It's More Than You, Love Light In flight, and Moments aren't Moments,etc....
But I Hate " Don't Drive Drunk", and especially "I Just Called to say I love You"..that one makes me feel like somebody poured honey all over my head!

to me, Songs in the Key of Life is a great album that has some great tunes, but it also has a lot of songs I would skip over, but that seems to be the case with most double (or triple) albums...

again...interesting smile cause it is maybe the only (?) double album I WON't skip through ANY song at all, it really rounds up perfectly for me. and going through the tracklisting in my head now, I don't there's a song I would NOT rate 5 or at least 4 1/2 stars

hey, that's just my 2 cents wink
but to conclude this: of course everybody has his personal faves and different tastes & opinions, but we all seem to agree it's a great album...

...so let's all join in to worship Stevie worship

I'd waited to post on this, out of fear that I'd forget some of the countless songs that have touched my life. touched

So, here's the list with which I'll begin:

1) I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)
2) I can't do it. I just can't do it! mad

In the 1970s, Stevie was on FIRE! So, all his albums from that period and a few hits from the '80s and '90s.

Sheesh!!

Higher Ground
Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away
Overjoyed
Skeletons
Lately
Send One Your Love
That Girl

Superwoman/Where Were You When I needed You
Golden Lady
You've Got It Bad Girl
Don't You Worry ' Bout A Thing
Creepin'
Too High
Weakness
Blame It On The Sun

The Stevie of the '70s would have probably made those lyrics less Hallmark card-ish. At one time Stevie could take simple lyrics and make something magical out of them ("You Are The Sunshine of My Life" being an example), whereas in the hands of lesser artists it would turn out to be sappy schlock. Like "I Just Called To Say I Love You" turned out for him...

...no offense Babycakes. biggrin

Yeah, no offense intended here, either biggrin ...yeah, in the original post, I was just asking , If you had someone who's only idea of Stevie was " I Just Called to Say I love You", what other songs would you turn them onto?...

Dancelot,I totally agree! 'SITKOL' is one of the few 2-record sets that I like ALL THE WAY THROUGH.I wouldn't dream of skipping over any tracks, they're all superb.Even the four bonus tracks are incredible."All Day Sucker" is the funkiest jam Stevie has ever done.

lol seriously,I find 'Sitkol' to be an amazing work.Truly incredible.Songs like "Summer Soft","Pastime Paradise","Another Star" and "Village Ghetto Land" just kill me everytime.I don't think that ANY other album by any other artist moves me the way this album does.

We'll have to start a seperate thread on this album (we've had many in the past, lol).

Yes! thumbs up! Like I said, it's a great album (it's Stevie, so that's a given!), but just not a favorite of mine and certainly not his best work IMO. However songs like "Have A Talk With God," "Village Ghetto Land," "Contusion," "Ebony Eyes" and (my favorite) "Easy Goin'" are amazing and still really close to me!

Is 'Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants' ever gonna be remastered? I think I would appreciate it more if I had a clear-sounding,remastered CD instead of the scratchy vinyl that I currently have lol

They seriously need to. I got it on CD about a year ago and although it's better on a digital recording, there is still that analog sound that you get from the album. Songs like "Power Flower" come through a bit clearer, but are still "fuzzy" if you know what I mean.

If you were gonna turn somebody on to STEVIE WONDER , what 12 songs would you choose? Or do you think there's one album that would do it ? (say, to convince someone who's image of Stevie is " I Just Called To Say I Love You", that he's the ultimate artist.)

I would suggest any of the folowing albums:

Music Of My Mind
Talking Book
Innervisons
Fulfillingness Full Finale
Songs In The Key Of Life

Once they'e hooked, and they will be wink , I would suggest Stevie's box set, "At The Close Of A Century" for the best overview of his career until 2000. This set is basically the best greatest hits collection on Stevie's career. Newcomers can really use this set as a startng point for their journey through Wonderland.

A bargain basement intro collection is The Definitive Collection.

P.S. Heard some live previews of Stevie's upcoming cd, "A Time To Love". With tunes like " Can't Imagine Love Without You", "True Love" And "Moon Blue", people better get ready for the Wonderman!! These tunes are jazz classics!!

i heard "can't imagine love" at his "bet walk of fame", and i swear from the 1st few notes 2 the ending i never stopped cryin....

That was a really nice song. The thing I've noticed about Stevie lately is that his vibrato has gotten a lot stronger, yet mellow, and that song really complimented his voice well.
