SOS, I would agree with you and ask, "So what?" if there weren't a historical context of American hatred of black skin (tanning aside). Sure, sometimes the products and needs are legitimate, and sometimes the products have been for those who thought they were too dark to be acceptable.

If Kim's transformation were in the other direction, folks might be more supportive. "Doctor, give me broader nose, help me to brown more in the sun and get my hair dark and as curly as you can...") But just how blonde, light-skinned and bright-eyed will this woman need to be, before she's happy with herself? Only she and Michael know for sure.

While I've always felt that Lil' Kim had made her name off of B.I.G.G.I.E's side freak, apparently she had enough talent to stay in the public eye for a bit. If she is going through a crisis because of her blackness or identity, Her REAL friends and people who love her need to stop her now. Even I can empathize with her if she has identity troubles. She should not be made to feel embarrassed about being black or trying to gain acceptance from the majority.
