MTV Lifts Ban on Janet MTV Lifts Ban on Janet
MTV's 60-day ban on recording artist Janet Jackson has been lifted and her new video "I Want You" is currently in rotation on the channel as a "spanking new video." The beleaguered cable network temporarily stopped showing the artist's videos and did not mention her by name after MTV came under intense scrutiny by thousands of TV viewers and the FCC immediately following a controversial, MTV-produced Super Bowl Halftime performance with Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake in which a "wardrobe malfunction" exposed the pop singer's bare breast. Many emails and feedback were left with MTV's website as well as letters of disapproval by fans of the artist regarding the apparent "snubbing" of all things Janet on the music channel. On Monday, April 5, 2004, Jackson's new single "I Want You" was finally played on the channel and MTV VJ Sway offered an apology to viewers and Janet's fans directly following the video. On behalf of the channel, he stated that MTV, in no shape or form, has any interest in banning artists from rotation on the network and to all of Janet Jackson's fans the station apologized for the delay.

60 day ban. Very convenient. It was a ban in name only. Janet had no new video out after the super bowl brouhaha, until now after that time has passed - and they'll gladly put it in their rotation. They knew what side their bread was buttered on from the beginning of all the nonsense.

To then end the ban with an apology to her fans just defeats the purpose and shows how farcical it was about exacting a punitive measure because of a violation of good taste and judgment during an MTV-produced segment. Now, if they banned her for two months after the release of her video/CD, that'd be another story. They've done nothing but create a buildup for the resumption of their JJ programming.

Absofreakinlutely. They might be able to get away with telling their teen and pre-teen demographic that it was a ban, but it insults an adult's intelligence. This post not for the wimp contingent. considering they own the various VH1 channels and BET, where I Want You had already been getting heavy rotation, i wouldn't call it much of a "ban"

` [This message was edited Mon Apr 5 16:44:06 2004 by Supernova] What are you talking about...oh that's right. The "Damita Jo" conspriacy. The fact is that they are playing the video now but it came out weeks ago. Also, when someone like Janet releases an album, there tends to be a little fan fare before it comes out. Hell, why wasn't there some kind of Janet special. The fact is that the MTV was thinking about the bigger picture and scarred that Connie might close down the RWRRTV (Real World Road Rules Television). If you don't think that MTV banned her and decided to lift the ban after a big reaction by pissed of fans that refused to watch anymore, think again?

A Janet album release was always a big deal on MTV, and they only started showing the video starting today. Anyway, screw MTV. They're a bunch of hypocrits because they wanted to snub Janet for a while, yet their whole station is devoted to promoting sex to children.

'Tis your prerogative to take eMpTV's shallow word, but don't try to sell that bridge to everybody. And I'm sure some airplay never coincided with the lifting of this "ban"... ` [This message was edited Mon Apr 5 19:13:16 2004 by Supernova] This post not for the wimp contingent. The fact is that people actually saw this and got offeneded. For the most part a bunch of preachers and crap always scream "Oh the sin on MTV" but can't really cite anything...cause they don't watch it! They should have stuck by their guns with this one either way. They should played and praised Janet. They really look like fools. Anyone that watches those "Real Worlds" will some the same amount of boob on any given episode.

We already know that MPTYV is 2% videos and 98% crappy programs. It's now creeping into MPTYV II. They are rerunning all of big sis's old ass shows and the Real?Worlds marathons. I want 2 phucks Jessica Simpleton? just to shut her up. C- celeberties should not be this important.
Opps' I for got that we were talking about Janet's breastess Jeux Sans Frontiers
