Morrissey slated to headline Lollapalooza

from EW on-line:

Expect a visit this summer from everyone's favorite reclusive vegetarian, Morrissey, as well as the Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, and String Cheese Incident. They're among the headliners for this summer's Lollapalooza tour, which will expand this year to include more than 30 bands and become a two-day festival for the first time in its history. Also confirmed for the main stage are Modest Mouse and Polyphonic Spree, while Billboard reports that organizers have made offers to such acts as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Le Tigre, and the Fire Theft. Announcements of additional acts and dates for the 20 -city tour are expected later this week.

The expanded lineup should result in lower ticket prices for this year's ninth incarnation of the long-running alt-rock festival, organizers said in a statement. ''What we're doing is more akin to the great European festivals that originally inspired Lollapalooza, as well as Coachella and Bonnaroo,'' tour agent Mark Geiger told Billboard. ''The two-day format will once again differentiate Lollapalooza from what everybody else is doing.''

Tour founder Perry Farrell is expected to serve as DJ or master of ceremonies, though he's not likely to bring along his on-again/off-again band Jane's Addiction. ''This summer, Lollapalooza will embody the spirit of the Gypsy!'' he said in a statement. ''Our buses of artisans sleeping over in each and every city will spread the sense of exhilaration. The days and nights will be filled with mischief.''

This actually has me modestly interested in Lollapalooza this year. The line-up seems slightly geared to an older crowd. Let;s see if it actually happens this way, though. Perry's plans often fall apart at some point...

I saw mozza in Glasgow in 2002, bout a month after seeing Prince in Manchester. Hands down, it was the scariest gig I have ever been 2. He threw his shirt into the crowd and some guy chipped my tooth trying to get it, I saw him later,he had blood pouring from his face, and was crying cause he got a piece of Mozzas shirt.

Total nutter

I knew you'd love it! Let me know when you're done. We'll have to have a little talk about it. There are a few lines, pieces, etc in there that are just smack-dab on it and I need to commiserate with someone on them.

Here's a link to the author's website. He's a senior writer for Spin. Not much on there, but it'll tell you a bit about the book and I believe there are links to purchase the book.

My GOD...Morrissey? I might have to consider going to this. wink This sounds like it's gonna be big, and you're right: it does sound like it's geared for a more older crowd. Good, I say. headbang
