GET ready for a kinder, gentler, more human Jennifer Lopez.

From NYPost.com

March 30, 2004 -- GET ready for a kinder, gentler, more human Jennifer Lopez. The diva demands are giving way to a new, carefully crafted sympathetic image to let everyone know she's really "Jenny from the block."

Lopez's handlers are orchestrating low-key and low-maintenance public appearances for her to show her softer, funnier side.

If schedules allow, Lopez will appear this weekend on Nickelodeon's "Kids Choice Awards" and is preparing to get "slimed" with green goo if she does. Lopez has also agreed to star as herself in an episode of "Will & Grace." And although Vogue is after her to do a long-awaited cover, she's shooting the cover of In Style instead.

Meanwhile, Lopez's notoriously expensive and high-maintenance hair man, Oribe, is no longer allowed to throw fits or demand limos, airplanes and $20,000 a day.

"On the In Style shoot, Oribe and [makeup artist] Scott Barnes will be paid the regular editorial rate," a source said. Editorial rates for magazines are hundreds of dollars a day, as opposed to thousands.

Lopez is also using In Style's in-house photographer, Ruven Asanador.

"There have been no high-diva demands," the source continued. "There will be no more absurd requests for white lilies in her rooms, 600-thread-count sheets in her hotel rooms or anything like that. She really is just a normal girl."

In addition, Lopez is looking to give back to society. Another insider says Lopez - never active in charity before - will pick out a cause this year and support it fully.

Until then, J.Lo is just trying to get back to a routine, which includes moving to Miami full-time.

"Jennifer has left Los Angeles," a source said. "Her house there is for sale and when you ask her where she lives, she says Miami. She will probably have to buy a place in L.A. just because of work, but she will never live there full-time again."

Lopez is even going to movie theaters with plebians. On Sunday afternoon, Lopez and good friend Marc Anthony went to see ex-beau Ben Affleck's latest flop, "Jersey Girl," at a cinema on Lincoln Road in South Beach. But she isn't fully back to earth - due to security concerns, the couple had a pair of beefy bodyguards with them.

Simon Fields, Lopez's low-key business partner and the man responsible for Lopez's new image, didn't return calls.

if you need to CRAFT a sympathetic image so that people can see you as "jenny from the block" then you probably weren't jenny from the block in the first place.

besides, i see nothing wrong with her diva attitude, if she wants to pay all that money and be high maintence then let her. if i was famous i would want 600 thread count sheets, too. of course being my cheap self i would just buy one set and take it with me everywhere i went.

This sounds interesting and all, but I think the tibit about her "choosing" to do an InStyle cover over Vogue is complete rubbish. In the vanity game, it is an unspoken rule that the word from Vogue to every celebrity's p.r person when they are profiled in ANY way is " you know Vogue dosen't need _____...but _____ needs Vogue, of that you can be sure." At any rate, from my work experience and connections, I am monumentaly certain that the current head of American VOGUE has NEVA wanted "Jenny From The Block" on "her" cover. J.Lo has, in fact, done many a cover try for articles that accompanied her inside the magazine's pages in the past, and they are ALWAYS struck down practically with lightening bolt speed from ice queen Anna Wintour. A.W. is NOTORIOUSLY an upper crust snob and has made it relatively clear in the fashion world that Jennifer Lopez is not a "Vogue Girl" in her eyes . She considers actresses like Salma Hayak and Penelope Cruz to be more of the mettle which makes a Vogue woman because she finds their backrounds, family trees, and artistic connections more in tune with the intended audience for her magazine ...

I like In Style as much as the next person, but realistically speaking (in the magazine publishing business), no actress in her right mind CHOOSES to do that cover over Vogue if they have a choice; the latter is definitely a highly sought after goal in the vanity business to cement one's status as cultural and sytle icon in American history. InStyle; great publication today, but possibly gone tomorrow- Vogue, on the other hand, ENDURES.

...oh, and about Oribe's day rate for InStyle: here's a news flash; ALL magazines only pay a day rate of up to several hundred dollars per crew member INCLUDING VOGUE. It dosen't matter if you're friggin' Helmut Newton or Oribe or Naomi Campbell. The way we're paid is that we make from $125-400 per day for editorial (fashion magazine) spreads (but incl. the swankiest of work circumstances such 1st or as business class flights, 5 star hotels and celebrity style catering, ect), and from the press work we've done with fashion magazines it catapults us into high paying advertisng assignments that start at $250 for crew assistants up to $8, 000 day for the photographer and $12,000 a day for the model whose face the product is depending on to launch a zillion sales. For celebrities and top tier of super models, I have been involved in projects where those heffers have gotten up to $25, 000 a day. But this kind of rate ,again, is usually only for high profile ad campaigns, expensive fashion catalogs, and for and for career veterans like Oribe, Giselle, or the very very hot "newbies" in the vanity business.

...sorry about that rant, but sometimes I hate the way they twist things in the press to create
"spin" on celebrity topics! confused

The irony is that Jersey Girl isn't a flop. With $8.3M from limited release last weekend, it should do at least $35M with good word-of-mouth, in-tune with its budget. This writer obviously doesn't know what she's talking about, fashion-wise or movie-wise.

chile, we can ALLLLL get 600 thread count sheets without the perils of being famous; click your way right on over to overstock.com or hotbargains.com and you too can be sleeping on sheets a la lopez and every foreign dignitary on this planet! back in the day you could only experience these sheets in the world's top hotels, or naturally, if you were rich as hell- but thank goodness for internet commerce!!!! it's a beautiful thing, i tell ya! wink

...I don't think the people were demanding so much for her to have an image change, they expected too much of her to represent in a different way, while she fed into all the negative stereotypes that blew her up. Notice it's not about her...it's about her people making her up, it has nothing to do with the block or even her background at any case, it has to do with the business and what they think will sell at this point, all about reinventing images and all that crap, and she knows that, while people over here on the other end think she's always been out there to represent them. ERRRRR. Wrong.
