Musicology Vs. Damita Jo... who wins? - i take that back edit

- the izaiah edit... -

u know what? It's like comparing apples 2 oranges.. really. I picked Janet previously, but I listened 2 Musicology backwards on headphones, and I have 2 say it's one of his best albums...so is Damita Jo well at least Damita is better than All 4 U.

So i take that back, i love em both.

I was a massive fan of Janet up until AFY .. that was one of the lamest albums I ever paid cash for ..... So I figured maybe she had one bad egg and went right out and brought Damita Jo. Next time Im listening before I buy .. what a shitty album .. not quite as bad as AFU but not far off .. I dont know what the hell she s singing about ... loud cool beats does not make for a catchy song ... theres not a hook to be found on that whoole CD.

Im picking musicology .... At least I feel like its slowly growing on me and over time Ill love it .. whereas with Janet , the more I listen the more it irritates me. Thank god Ive still got the receipt.

ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME???

Notwithstanding that Musicology has some GREAT songs on it...
Ask again when Janet plays an instrument, one instrument, on
her album, when she writes and PRODUCES her own songs, AND
makes them as infectious as anything on Musicology...

Would you ask the same question of the latest Britney Spears
album? cause her and Janet are interchangable...both low-end
singing voices, non-instrument playing, sex toys who are
lucky to have a "music" career.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

for MANY people on this site, Janet is up in the stratosphere with Prince. And since this thread didn't specifcally ask "which CD shows more talent" I think it's an appropriate question.

as for my opinion, I've only give Damit Jo 1 listen (almost I gave up before it was over) and it completely bored me. I will try it again over the weekend, but right now, I'm enjoying Musicology MUCH MUCH MUCH more.

5 - Musicology
1 - Janet

I understand, but 2 me, Musicology is hard 2 swallow. Almost none of the songs have a hook, and it is kinda hard 2 swallow some of the deep songs. I like them, but they just take time 2 learn...imagine if u only heard it 4 the first time, could u remember what it sounded like? Musically yes Prince will always be damn better than Janet will ever be (and i dont know who put her next 2 Britney, she aint doin noting but copying and her lil' sex shit is played out), but I mean if some1 said 2 me...which one would u rather listen 2 "The Velvet Rope" or "Chaos & Disorder" I'm takin Velvet anyday.

Musicology is taking me some time 2 really get in2 (Musicology, Reflection, On The Couch, Illusion/Coma.Pimp & Circumstance, and Life O The Party are the only tracks I really have picked up so far), while some standout tracks like "R&B Junkie, Thinkin Bout My Ex" "Spendin Time Wit U" "Island Life" and much much more is easier 2 digest.

4 some reason, i wish Musicology was released 3 years ago when no one was really payin attention 2 Prince, an album like The Rainbow Children wouldve really really made a difference.....I hope with all the hype and common folks listen 2 "Musicology" they dont just pass on it right away.

since i bascially got both for free (downloaded DJ and got Musicology at the screening), I would only say this about the two albums: DJ has more out-the-gate "crowd-friendly" tracks (radio, casual listeners) than Musicology. That being said, Musicology will stand on its own merits without the benefit of slick videos and remixes to keep it afloat. Prince fans will almost have to push Musicology on their friends and hope they like it as much as they do (most won't). DJ isn't better, but isn't necessarily worse either....sometimes you want a fast food meal (DJ) and sometimes you wanna sit down at the table and eat something homecooked (Musicology).
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

honestly, i'm enjoying damita jo more. that is not to say i don't like musicology because i really do like it! i think illusion, coma, pimp and circumstance is a phenomenal track and i love reflection, what do u want me 2 do, cinnamon girl...well, actually, all of them. i love the disc. i have just been listening to janet's more frequently. i got both on the same night and even with the hype of attending the prince show in la, i have still been preferring to pop in damita jo over musicology. maybe that will change in time but for now, i'm thoroughly hooked on janet's new release.

Janet plays keyboards and does vocal and rhythm arrangements, dating back to the Control era. She also cowrites many her songs (but I'm sure you'll debate just how much input she has). Yes, the songs from "Control" were musically Jam & Lewis, but lyrically, they were (mostly) hers. No, she ain't Prince, but then, few people are.

Im sorry, but I have 2 give it 2 Janet.

Prince's Musicology is a nice album, but it laks anything catchy. I wish that this album was Rave, and that he made Musicology back then...(with changes 2 some of Rave's songs, or tracks from High album...).

While janet, as always has somehting catchy, easy 2 listen 2, and blends nicely. Not 2 say that Musicology was bad, but it wasnt as consistent as his other albums....like it is incomplete.

Who does ur vote go 2?

You need your ears cleaned - no EXORCISED - mate! "Musicology" is a terrific album. What I've heard of Janet's latest digitally produced turd is so bad it's actually funny. She's made a little - weedy little voice, no songwriting talent (and face it - her lyrics make the words in Valentines cards read like Shakespeare (as in William, by the way), same tired old live show - go a long way. Prince has more talent under his little fingernail than Janet AND her whole production teams have in their whole bodies. And don't forget that the Dr Frankensteins who made Janet who she is today were former Prince proteges.

"Musicology" is Prince's best album since "The Gold Experience". I'd even order EvilWhiteMale to get himself a copy - THAT'S how good it is.

Musicology by far.

Someone should call up Janet this week and tell her "now THIS is how you put together a great half-assed album!" if you're going to repeat yourself, do it right.

I take all that back guys, I listened 2 Musicologu in different order.... beginning with Musicology, Illusion, Life O The Party, Reflection, Man In yo Life, marrying Kind, What Do u Want me 2. Basically backwards, AND BOY IT IS A VERY NICE ALBUM! The order shouldve been changed definitley because the best ones are on the end! I may have 2 change the order on a CD-R for myself. Every song on it is good.

While Janet fell a little flat on Moist, My Baby, and another one... kinda wish they werent in there.

But all in all, its like comparing apples 2 oranges.. im sorry guys!
